Dirty co2 was a big deal with automags
in the early days, it caused so many issues with reg creep.

It was a tournament killer with the penalties. Mag guys on the team would purposely spooge the gun on the way out so they would have to do a few clearing shots to clean out the gun before chrono.

Tom Kaye pushed for have NRPL and APL to allow for clearing shots. Eventually, it was figured to be dirty co2 and good filters made all the difference

It seems to me that Industrial grade CO2 is much cleaner than it was 30 years ago but that is just my experience.
I would think that food or beverage grade is overkill, bone dry medical grade is likely far better than needed.

The reason I prefer food grade 12g is I like to use specific oils on my SC markers.

The oil I use is as synthetic that is less susceptible to temperature fluctuation, slicker, thinner, less likely to get shot down the barrel and effects accuracy. It’s also less maintenance so I get longer service life before having to break them down and clean them. I get better consistency and efficiency numbers over a longer span of time. Quality 12g have more consist fills, better caps so they seal and Pierce easier and faster, they are also consistent in size. I just buy enough of them so I get the at Walmart prices (+/- a few cent a piece) Just got to buy 1.5 years worth at a clip (UPS guy will hate you). I’m my third box of 500 and haven’t got a dud yet in 1500 I think that is pretty good.

Are Walmart Crossmans Weight checked before or after oil is added? Some of them are loaded with oil others not so much. It just adds another unnecessary variable. If you play alot it builds up on internals. I feel like I would get a lot of duds when I used them to.

For bulk co2 you get what you get and you don’t get upset. We don’t get choice of quality around here. Not many places offer it unless you buy bottles in bulk from the local welding supply stores.
