    Two questions, need your thoughts

    1. If you are putting together a build with custom ano. Would you ano an Xvalve with it or keep it the Xvalve black?

    2. Do you run any of your automags using CO2 or only using air?

    Thanks

    1. I would only keep the Xvalve black, if it was a valve with a rare lasering, such as "X-Mag", "X-Valve", "Emaxx", etc. If it was a standard Xvalve, I would anno it, with the reasoning that if I changed my mind later on, it would be a whole lot easier to get hold of a standard black Xvalve, rather than getting the valve annoed to an exact match.

2.HPA only. Every single AGD valve works wonders on HPA.

I tried exactly once to run my classic mag on a 12oz Co2 when the field I was at ran outa HPA (back then most fields just had scuba tanks for hpa fills Co2 was still the main stay). I got about 10 shots before it froze up (my mag was not set up ideally for Co2).

The rest of the the day I conceded the mag was not going to work for me. And I ran my PGP2K while my friend ran my Pro/carbine.

A classic mag CAN technically be setup for Co2 but it’s still not ideal. And X-valve CAN NOT run Co2 at all.

As for anno I’d skip it personally. But I was always partial to all blacked out mags anyways.

        1. I would keep the valve black.

        2. I run 'mags both ways. Sometimes co2 is what's available. The versatility is nice.

I really like how classic mags shoot on CO2, but like others have alluded it's smart to have some sort of anti-siphon or expansion setup. I like bright obnoxious colors so I say go for it on the ano.

            1. I've always heard people say there can be tolerance issues from re-anodizing a valve, a few people local to me(one being my brother) have had their black valves anodized and of the builds one I know one of the valves constantly has issues when they play with the mag that valve is on, I'm not sure if it's user error(I don't think they know how to properly tune an xvalve) or not, but my brother's valve seems to work with no issue, it also helps if you use somone who's experienced in anodizing xvalves, of course with that said there is always room for errors in custom projects, I'd say if you have the extra money and don't have any problem having to buy a second valve if need be, go for it.

            2. I've used 12grams on my pump mags(classic valves) before, they seem to work fine with that but hpa is probably king for the mag valve system

Not trying to hijack, and staying with the running-mags-on-co2 topic, does anyone have any experience with shooting one with a vertical co2 tank (screwed in the vertical asa, no expansion chamber)? I know literally nothing about these guns but remember seeing setups like that a LONG time ago and was curious.

i have not seen anyone play it setup that way before. I would think it would make it a little unbalanced/awkward. I have seen some with a duck bill on the back of the rail, right below the valve. this way they can use the tank as a shoulder stock or cradle it on forearm. most say it helps carry the weight and sight their shots.

I ran a Minimag straight vertical back in '92 or so. It still suffered leaks due to frozen-from-CO2 o-rings.
I live in Pennsylvania, so maybe in really warm climates and slow shooting you'd be OK, but I've never lasted a full game with a Mag on CO2.

Understood, I'm running a 48/3k for now just to get by. Setup is still evolving!
