    Automag RT

I haven’t got my parts kit in the mail but I did get the regulator pin assembly which was the primary problem I was having (I also have a very slight leak once I adjust the reg to 260+ FPS so I assume I need a regulator piston soon). Still it was in a workable shape, a little less consistent than I would like but, still usable.

I used to own an E-mag and a Classic mag, so I am not new to mags and I would frequently swap the valves though I remember having a different on/off for the E-mag valve when I put it in my classic body, something about the on/off pin but I can’t recall right now.

So I expected the RT to perform exactly like my E-mag valve in a classic powerfeed left body, but it didn’t. Like the thing felt much easier to get high fire rates with, without resorting to a runaway RT effect. It has the same plastic grip frame my classic mag had (which I love btw, I also used it on my Autocockers) so it really should be the same.

so what I am asking is: does the original RT have some special sauce to it that later guns lack? Even the level 10 seemed to perform better for some reason. Maybe it is just the gun honeymoon I don’t know but this might even be a gun I enjoy more than the E-mag (which was my first Automag)

This is the quirky nature of RT and X-valves for better or for worse. The design is so dependent on a combination of factors like the condition of the orings, what bolt and bolt spring, on/off pin length, how broken in the reg pin and piston are, and the air input pressure to the valve, that they all have their own personality in a way. It’s nothing really special with the RT Classic. I’ve owned about twenty RT Classics by now, still have four, as well as several Retro Valves and a couple X valves. Some were naturally well behaved and others wanted to run like a raped ape with the same spec parts like bolt type, on/off pin size and air input pressure. This is part of the reason I think mags have more of a ‘personality’ than newer, more advanced designs like the Emek that generally feel the same with the same spec parts.

The Classic RT has a smaller diameter valve...making it heat up faster the more you shoot it. The hotter it gets the faster it can go. The RT is the fastest in terms of BPS without shootdown that there ever was.

Honestly.... Of all the mags I've owned the original RT mags were my favorite. I'm agreeing with you that they "just shot better" My current, a euro rt with level 10 just shoots fantastic in comparison to a micromag rt I have

What’s the difference feel like between the two? I’ve never owned a Micromag, let alone a RT one, but it’s on my list.

I will say after a few more outings with the gun and a new piston to prevent leaking at normal velocities I am still very impressed. I got this to make a pneumag out of but now I am thinking maybe I will just get another automag to use my fancy grip frame with, I don’t want to ruin this amazing trigger feel

I do have to wonder though has anyone made a properly hoseless automag with a classic RT it doesn’t seem like it would be all that hard to just tap the rail and run a gas line thru the grip frame

Like everyone noted, classic RTs get better the more you shoot them.

Mine rips at 20bps with 900psi input and a .745 pin, verified over a chrony. I need to play around with pin length and input pressure some more to slow it down a bit, my goal was 12-13 bps. 😏
And God turned to Gabriel and said: “I shall create a land called Canada of outstanding natural beauty, with majestic mountains soaring with eagles, sparkling lakes abundant with bass and trout, forests full of elk and moose, and rivers stocked with salmon. I shall make the land rich in oil so the inhabitants prosper and call them Canadians, and they shall be praised as the friendliest of all people.”

“But Lord,” asked Gabriel, “Is this not too generous to these Canadians?”

And God replied, “Just wait and see the neighbors I shall inflict upon them."
