Unusual Automag behaviour vs. my room-temperature IQ

**The initial problem is solved, but the fun continues here.**

    -----------------------

Yesterday I had some issues with my classic mag. As the day went on, I started to develop drop off, double feeding, and what felt like "short-stroking". Very low velocity shots in between good ones. It was absolute chop city for me. My first thought with the double feeds was maybe the spyder detent in my Doc adapter had failed, but it is in good working order.

I just rebuilt this valve a couple weeks ago with an AGD parts kit. Over the chrono it was comfortably shooting 285 +/-3.

I pulled it apart, nothing looks odd, no failing o-rings.

Any ideas where to check, what to look for, potential causes?

    Thanks fellas

I am guessing level 7 bolt? did you adjust your spacer for the replacement oring?

Not if it is working fine.

MrBarraclough I still use springs. I somehow inherited a bunch, and they're just so convenient. If your spring still works, just leave it. The power tube spacers were designed by PTP to prevent leaking from a worn spring. I've been using my current spring since the mid 2000's. So if you ask me, spacers fixed only an imaginary problem.

This is almost for sure the solve for what you described, and knowing that you recently put a new o-ring in there.. Smaller spacer, specifically (look for a .215). I've actually taken my massive stash of useless .225+ spacers and ground them down on a file to be .215ish

Did the trigger feel like normal or like it does when the tank pressure is low? The fact that you say it's sputtering like you're short stroking would explain your double feeds and leads me to believe you have an issue with the reg recharge rate. I'm not too familiar with how the spacers work, so Superman could very well be correct, but if the trigger isn't snappy like normal I'd say it's the reg.

It didn't seem any different, but I haven't played with it in a bit, so I can't recall.

Could the loader be pushing past the detents?

My mags were nightmares before I figured out that the small paint was driving all of it. Velocity all over the place, chop induced leaks, continual chops, continual dulouble feeds, etc. etc.

I have never had a single detent Doc's adapter work, the dual detented adapters however solved all my issues. I would try a bearded works detent or spring for a dual detented Doc's adapter as a first step.

No, it's just a revvy. No force fed action here.

Myrkul On other occasions I would agree with it being paint related, but I'm not sure this time. This paint was pretty good quality, and held in a .682 for the most part.

I also put a few balls straight into the breech with the body off the frame and waved it around. They paint would eventually dislodge, but it held OK.

I will also definitely look into one of the double detent adapters, though. I don't have any centre feed barrels.

Any chance you may have accidentally put the on/off top in upside-down? The older ones, and some of the aftermarket, are unidirectional.

Second, is this a new build? What does the air hose setup look like?

What kind of 90s do you have? Normal macro 90s, or straights screwed into 90s?

Ok. I was just asking because I had some braided stainless threaded into some street 90s that were nice and far away from the body. But the street 90s air hole was dead center of the threads, so I ended up blocking 70% of the air hole when I tightened down the braided stainless. Took me forever to figure out the problem. If I one-balled the thing, it worked fine. If I shot faster than maybe 4bps, I had horrible shoot down and short stroking symptoms.

Mine is "Emotional Support Truck" in reference to mall crawlers, coal rollers, Carolina squats, and other forms of insecurity and misplaced machismo in truck form.

Usually when it shoots fine single shots then quickly shoots down during rapid fire you have a reg problem.
I would highly suspect your reg spring pack.
At least check and see if it isn't flattened

Swapped the spacer for the 215(220 was inside), checked the spring pack, dry fired a bit but can't really rip it.

Heading to the field this weekend, so we will see.

Dumb question, but since no one else asked it yet - is your rail bushing present? It's a thin sleeve that keeps the field strip screw centered in the rail and can cause weird things if not there.

Also... how tight are you make the gripframe screws? I've found some Mags are more sensitive to that than others.
And God turned to Gabriel and said: “I shall create a land called Canada of outstanding natural beauty, with majestic mountains soaring with eagles, sparkling lakes abundant with bass and trout, forests full of elk and moose, and rivers stocked with salmon. I shall make the land rich in oil so the inhabitants prosper and call them Canadians, and they shall be praised as the friendliest of all people.”

“But Lord,” asked Gabriel, “Is this not too generous to these Canadians?”

And God replied, “Just wait and see the neighbors I shall inflict upon them."

Forgot to update, I swapped the shim for the 215 and changed to a larger ID macroline. I didn't play with it, but I shot a couple hoppers through it and it was rock solid.

Here's to another 10 years without opening if up.

Well, I fixed this just in time for my RT rebuild to show up.

Which of course means more problems.

Right now I am getting a barrel leak, stops when the trigger is pulled. But after a few shots it shoots the PT oring into the bolt and then just pisses air down the barrel.

Any ideas from the hive mind?

Are you using an 010 urethane oring in the PT?

Most of my mags run with spring instead of spacer and urethane oring

Well, visually nearly identical but obviously one is slightly smaller.

This is my functioning classic valve vs my RT.

No air, will fill up on the weekend and hopefully have a sick RT vid for you all.
