    BW Mag Rail

Sooo I did a thing today....
Decided to machine a mag rail fixture and machine a rail that i have been designing for awhile for a project. I have some tweaks i want to make but super pumped with how this came out especially for the first crack at it.

Not the same rail in black but for weight comparison.

Missing the forgrip slot and deburring but....

I used to tell myself Id do this to a stock mm rail. I hate the dovetail on them that your hand rides on.

This gonna be another thing you offer?

        That looks great.

You're now missing a z-lock groove. Is that not needed for this project?

Have you played with it yet? Is it still strong / hold up?

Haven’t played with it yet, but not really worried about the strength. It’s similar to rails made by Luke.

            #8
I used to have one of Luke’s and sold it many years ago, which I regret. He isn’t making them anymore as far as I am aware. I am happy that you are now contemplating doing so…. Maybe, perhaps, possibly, the thought has crossed your mind etc 😈.

I didn't realize how close mine was to his.
I will sell them but need to clear some projects off my plate. One of which will go hand and hand with this rail.

Very nice. It would be awesome to have a nice mill option that would look good and work well for ule center and warp bodies. Without having the notch. Just a thought.

This one was designed to be the same thickness as an intelliframe. i will take a look and see how close a warp body is. I could always cut one for it though.

Would this clean up a lot of the light gouges and marks seen on the rails you have in stock today?

It does clean up all of the outside marks, It will not clean up marks on top of the rail or bottom of the rail though. see pics below.

I should have updated this post too.
I got flood coolant working on the mill. I am still chasing some leaks but overall working great.

If you look really closely above the safety you can see marks at the top of the rail. That is from some pitting in the rails before milling.

pretty happy with the way everything lined up minus the location of the back bottle asa holes.I will be adjusting that slightly. Hoping to do another cap here in the next day or so to test a few changes to hopefully run them faster.

Disclaimer: I'm not looking for credit or trying to take anything from Jake because I do support BW's efforts. The fact is it's easy for two or more people to have similar ideas.

That said, when I saw Jake's rail I was sure I had made one many years ago, I just happened to stumble onto it looking for something else. I dont know how many I made but I suspect I probably only made one.

I actually removed the rt style slot from this one because of the front screw being too large, but maybe there is more room than i thought. I'll look at that tonight. I'd be lying if i said i didn't take inspiration for your rails to design my own.

Yea I slotted mine for the RTP vasa then had to add the little bump on the tip to make room for the screw so the vasa would line up properly

I so regret letting go of the one you milled for me. And the square one with slots on the side.

I'm sure there's still a market for modding rails, I was doing tons of them when I dropped the service and started making my own

Agree new designs would be cool. And pump milling and pump kit too.

A rail that you milled for me along with the body that you also had chopped to match for me from back in the day is pictured in post # 8 above, memory lane…

I say there is always a market for continued ideas, innovations, and what’s old is new and new is old. I love seeing new and older guys alike running machinery and making metal shavings. Some people can’t take work on and some don’t have enough. As long as everyone is doing good fair and noble work.
