Hmm, the more I think about it, I suppose the on/off closing during the firing sequence would prevent you from using the back cap to effectively increase the dump chamber volume. Too bad. I suppose at best you could use a high volume back cap as a kind of buffer between the HPR and the on/off to smooth out any recharge hiccups, but that's probably not enough of a benefit to be worth the work.

I'm still a little fascinated by the idea of somehow using the space freed up by dropping the A.I.R. as a sort of screw-on Magic Box. You'd have to drill a new air passage to link the void space in the back cap with the dump chamber, but at the same time somehow isolate that path from the incoming air supply (otherwise you'd be defeating the on/off). Damn, that would be complicated.

The one thing I wish could be changed about Automag design is the dump chamber volume, since it sets such a high floor for operating pressure.
I lately have been experimenting alot with dump chamber volume. I started with a magic box valve than I remove magic box parts which is just a tiny expansion tube chamber.i replace with a 90° 1/8npt elbow fitting followed by a a threaded stainless steel refillable 12 gram co2 cartridge which fits 1/8npt threads perfect. I also have a 16 gram threaded cartridge that fits nicely. A threaded disposable co2 cartridge can be found in almost any size I have a 45 gram cartridge that fits infact. My goal was highest velocity not air efficiency I was running with a deleted regulator in order to allow much higher psi in valve as much as 1800psi I noticed a much higher velocity with the enlarged dump chamber I plan to try larger co2 cartridge in future. Currently I'm running co2 instead of hpa. I wrapped nichrome wire around the expansion chamber connected to a 11.1v lith ion high discharge battery in grip with a pressure switch to activate. This allows me to rapidly heat up the dump chamber co2 which leads to a controlled co2 expansion in order to raise psi as high as 3000 before burst disk releases for safety sake . It goes from ,800 psi to 2000 very quickly allowing for high powered shots similar to 1800 psi hpa shots I've tested with previous .
marker is a classic automag converted to magfed with a 75 gram co2 cartridge I refill with larger external bottle. The 75g cartridge runs into a on off nob first then to the fill port then another on off than into a 3 stage co2 expansion chamber this is the black cylinder in pictures then down into valve. then from magic box port hole first a 3k burst disk then psi guage and finally the 12g co2 cartridge I have wrapped in heating element wire. even with just a 5 inch barrel it shoots .6875 steel ball bearings well over 100 joules.
Just for fun in the spirit of fn 303 less lethal launcher.
I need regulator cap made with 1/8npt hole in back so I can feed air in through rear for other projects I have.

Any update? I purchased a mini mag from here and it looks like the back half of the reg is some off brand so I'm interested.

Unfortunately no, I have been studying in my free time to take a test for my day job that I need to pass. So this and pretty much all custom work has taken a back seat. Good news is the test is tomorrow so we shall see how that goes.
