Back from a 10 year hiatus, finally ready to build a Mag - Where to find parts?

Hey all. I just played for the first time in at least 10 years and immediately got the itch again. sQuidvision (if he is still around?) and I used to go back and forth about building a mag for me while I built an cocker for him but we just never got around to it. I figured it was finally time.

Forgive me for my naivety, but what is the best way to source new or good condition parts for a build these days? Just buying from part out forum posts? I don't see any new parts on the AGD website for a new build other than basic rebuild items.

AGD should have ULE bodies, Xvalves, and frames. There are a lot of parts available in Facebook groups and here on MCB.

First decide what type you want on it.
classic or mag length rail. Classic is shorter.
classic body, so many type for feed options, used twist lock barrel.
Ule body, center feed or warp. Uses cocker barrel.
frame, so many options carbon fiber single trigge. Aluminum single or double trigger.
        valve classic, RT or Xvalve.
foregrip and other stuff you want on it.

Than look or place a WTB post for the parts or maybe one that has everything you want on it.

        Welcome back to the fold.

Thanks! I'm thinking ULE center feed body, X-valve, not sure which rail, bike grip, and I already have a carbon single trigger grip so will use that. If I can still get new parts from AGD I will probably do that - I must have just missed them somehow on the site.

Mags are cool. I'm super happy I took the plunge

If money is not at option you might be better off just buying a complete build from Luke but if it is, a lot of times it's better to start with a classic mag, they can be had for around 160 these days and then build it out from there. Replacing parts as you have the cash. At the end you'll most likely end up with 2 mags as you have replaced every single part. That's basically what I did. The only part I have left is the x valve

The AGD site isn't the most intuitive when it comes to finding things, sometimes you have to dig around a bit.

Here's the X valves... looks like they are out of stock at the moment though. https://www.airgundesigns.com/product-p/001103.htm
Vert feed ULE bodies here: https://www.airgundesigns.com/product-p/001880.htm

Squid vision, he's a good dude for sure. He's on the forums again as squidbanks, hes a big reason I also like mags. When I got my problematic x valve he made it work for a while. Then he helped shorten my on off pin and made that thing a buzzsaw. He's not too active on the forums these days. Last I talked to him (years ago already) I was told to stop by for a brew, and to pick up his 68 carbine that he modded a 98 R/T into long ago. I never made the time to take him up on that.

Looks like I am going in the right direction then - I have this sitting in my basement from a long time ago and never used it for anything. Thanks all!

How crazy you want to dive into a mag? I got lots of rare parts I’m going to sell.

I’m a cocker guy and tried the mag thing a few times with fancy xvalved ULT markers that I could never get to stop leaking. Made me swear off mags. That was until I picked up a heavy as hell classics mag with a warpfeed. Played with it on the weekend and it changed my mind on mags. Sometimes the fanciest is not the best.

Some people love ult's some people hate them. I HATE them. I swear by the rt on/off. Easier to diagnose any issues and will keep you on the field.

Also if you guys need help, give me a shout.

That's how I felt with the ULT in the xvalve, too. I liked my classic better. Definitely a lighter pull with the ULT but couldn't get a consistent pull. No issues over years with classic on/off or RT on/off in the classic valve or RT on/off in the xvalve. Even sitting several seasons the only leak I had was the wrong size L10 carrier o-ring.

I've tried the RT valve a few times. They do go down more often than the Classic valve. Even my ULTs have shot great. But a Classic with RT on/off is where it's at. Rebuild once every 5-6 years, add oil in the ASA, and that's it's for maintenance.

Interesting, hadn't heard that about the x-valves. I was always told that mags were the easy ones that always worked...lol

As for how crazy? Not really. First mag build so I was going to go relatively easy on it but with good parts. I hate buying something just to upgrade it down the road. I also want to build something that doesn't stand out. I have a feeling that I will be a walk on most of the time and don't want to intimidate the rentals.

I still want a center feed body, but I may have to reconsider some other parts - at least for now.

Beads. I drilled them out to get the right internal diameter. It's pretty tight but doable. Haven't found a good way to get them to stop rotating though.

                          Here's the ones I used
