What's the difference between the two, and why shouldn't you use the incorrect one on your valve? I'm just curious. I've been shooting mags for a long time and it's something I've never understood.

Classic vs RT bumpers

Yep, as far as I know, the RT bumper was introduced with the RT, for just that reason. So both bumpers fit on any AGD valve. I know that some AGD tinkerers claim that you should most definitely use an RT bumper with any Automag you intend to shoot rapid fire with, i.e. an RT-mag, an Emag/Xmag, a pneumag or a custom EP-mag, etc, etc. I don't know AGD's stance on this, or if it matters, and if so - how much.
My main shooter over the years has been an Automag with a classic Automag valve and a Geforce frame, i.e. a pneumatic frame, so it fires pretty rapidly. The valve that is in it has probably been fired in exess of 200K times on that specific gun, and still has its original blue bumper. Oh, and still has all the original orings as well, by the way. I will never sell that valve.

A benefit of the softer bumpers is that they squish down more, providing a little over travel while the bolt resets. When you use RT, the sear is grabbing at the bolt rim at that point. If you have the on/off pin set close and a hard, blue bumper, you can get some bolt rim nibbling more easily than with a soft bumper. The soft bumpers wear out faster for sure, and seem to be more sensitive to different oils (that may be different with newer batches). I usually keep the recommended bumpers in the different valves out of habit. However, there is almost no point in keeping more than one or two spare softies around because they get old quickly. You go to replace a bad one just to find out that the whole batch has just expired and gotten gummy.
