    Another Automag Newb Question Thread

As the title suggests, I'm new at this. After watching multiple Tom Kaye videos, and reading the manual, I still have a few questions.

Firstly, is normal paintball grease ok for the spring pack, reg piston, adjuster, etc?

Next, is there difference between the fat sear and the thin ones in terms of functionality/longevity? Mine came with a fatty. Also, is the pivot pin supposed to be stuck in the sear, or should it be loose. Mine is stuck, but it may just be rusted.

The plastic detent that came with it isn't holding paint in the barrel, but the wire detent I tried did. Is this normal for the plastic detents, or was it just worn down? It looked fine to me. Do the wire detents need any adjustments, or are they good to go?

Lastly, I know the trigger rod is supposed to rest about a credit card's thickness form the rear of the trigger, and it is currently touching the trigger, but I dry fired a few shots, and it seemed fine? What should be used to adjust this? Vice grips and twist? What does an improper trigger even cause?

Grease is fine. An Automag won't know the difference.

I've never seen a difference between the sear width.

Wire detents usually hold paint better, so no worry there.

Back off the sear rod until you can see a gap (daylight) between that and the back of the trigger. Anything shorter may cause short-stroking. Yes, vice grips to turn it, if you need them.

Should be, I use super lube from the hardware store and it works fine.

Depending on how small your paint is, you can have issues. For my mag I had to either use a bent in slightly more wire detent or a dual detent barrel with rubber detents. Using a single rubber detent always caused excessive rollouts and double feeds.

Don't touch it. If it works, it's fine. If you mess with them pretty much everything goes wrong and the mag will leak, sputter, fail to reset, it's just a mess.

Ok thanks guys. One last thing: any recommendations for sight rails? I have an agd style, and the kind that sits back over the valve, and neither sit quite as snugly as I'd like.
