So I recently picked up a 6pak that was sold as in a potentially rough condition. Truth be told, I couldn't verify anything aside from it looking complete and ive never owned one but always tried to chase one down. My issue is that it doesn't appear to be feeding correctly, I noted some old residue internally which is definitely not helping so I wiped it out and tossed a small amount of oil on the contact points hoping for better results and while it did improve some, its not enough to be reliable. Were they inherently finicky or am I looking at doing a few mods to get it tuned up?

I own one and restored another, they are typically fairly reliable but both of the ones I've worked on have needed done tweeking to get to that point. Here this will be a good starting point give it a read. Probably the first thing I would do is replace the spring. The original springs have lost tension at this point
Ok so, made a deal with another member here, he got me a vanguard demon for my father in law and I'm return I picked up a agd 6 pak that was missing a few pieces. But I felt it was nothing I can't handle fabricating so I took on the project. Let's see what happens. Ok, here is what I'm working with. My 6 pak on the left is

They really were not finicky at all but the magazine spring does weaken and eventually will break over time. If it has the original spring that spring is 34ish years old and who knows how it was cared for over that time, corrosion kills them as well as leaving the magazine loaded between outings. You can buy an M-14 20 rd magazine spring and modify it as a replacement. Oh when operating a 6 Pak you operate the handle with firm quick motion and it will eject and feed in the new cartridge without issue with a good spring. Slow tentative operation can cause a misfeed occasionally. The were designed to work in a tournament situation and are real tough and reliable.

Yeah they like it rough. Slam it open, slam it closed.
If they were a person they would probably like some leather, whips and light bondage
