Automag consistently vs modern mechs like m170r

I'm an old school pre electro gun player.
I remember automags being pretty consistent over the chrono and can pretty much shoot a nice rope.
I got back into the sport last year and got a 170r. Sure it's a nice gun but it seems pretty inconsistent. I got a mech frame to slow down my ROF hoping to get rounds in a tighter group.

I'm wondering if these really low pressure guns are not as consistent as a higher pressure gun like an automag.

I'm tempted to build a ule body classic valve lvl10 mag.

I also ready that the retro valve wasn't as consistent as the classic valve. The classic valve is said to go up to 15bps and I have no intention of ever going over 10bps.

    Thoughts?

Most likely your inconsistency is more due to the poor quality paint we deal with. I have been a long term Mag user and have an PE M170R and either one of them is just as consistent as the other given the Mag is setup correctly. I use my M170R as my back up for when I am having marker issues and it works flawlessly every time I bring it out to use. I can not remember the last time I needed to adjust velocity. All I do is wipe it down after using it and stick it back in its box and maybe once a year pull the core and clean/re-grease it then put it back into service. I would stack a M170R up to any mech Mag out there the only differences really is the Mag will be heavier then the M170R.

The only problem I see with the M170R is it just has no SOUL. Super reliable, very fast and super light but it just does not get the blood stirring like most of my other markers.

Yeah the paint today is horrible and fields won't let you bring your own even if you pay extra

Crappy ass paint… i don’t even enjoy playing anymore because of it, all i seem to be shooting is mag fed for first strike rounds and that’s stupid pricey

Who cares, really? It's like worrying about gas mileage on a 1968 428ci Mustang Fastback, or a Harley Pan Head!

Yeah, good paint in a mag or a 170R is going to shoot great. Mid paint is going to shoot mid.

I got some great paint this past weekend (graffiti). God it shot darts, felt like 15 years ago. I was shooting feet, barrel tips, pack edges. I shot it through several different markers and they all shot amazing. It's definitely the paintballs.

It was just a random batch of Graffiti that happened to be good. From APE.
Blue fill, metallic brown and blue shell. They had just a small number of cases of it. Shot it through a Blazer, an Angel LCD, and a Sniper.

Surprisingly I think it was from the American factory, no desiccant bags. Previous stuff I shot from that was pretty rough.
