Sidewinder - short, medium, or long? + Inspiration pictures?

Looking for a reg for one of my sniper builds. I've always liked CP regs, but have read a lot of good things about AKA regs. I'm planning to buy a Sidewinder from AKA, but I'm torn between short / medium / long.

The main thing I worry about is the angle of the fittings as I'm running an 86 frame w/ ID EZ ASA which has a straight fitting. Ideally, I'd want the straight fitting from the ID ASA to go directly into the straight fitting on the SW without much angle in the macro line. I also have some CCM fittings laying around if it was possible to get a short SW and run the macro line "up" into the short SW through the CCM fitting. I think I've seen this done with AKA 2L, but I don't see those currently for sale from AKA.

Anyone have particular strong opinions on the options here or general advice?

Can anyone measure the length from the bottom of their SW to the center of the hole for the fitting? Might help me make a decision.

Also, would appreciate any pictures of sniper / AC builds using sidewinders. Feel free to show off

I’m a fan of the 2L personally I think they look nicer than the sidewinders. I do prefer the sidewinders with the squared off reg swivel over the round style swivels for cosmetic reasons only. I go with AKA on all my builds I feel they make the best quality regs its total overkill for my pump builds (high flow is not important for snipers) But if I go aftermarket I go AKA.

Here's a partial mock up of the Mozak Southpaw I was going to build (will be posting the body for sale here in a few minutes, though). His vert ASA's perfectly match the OD of the Sidewinders. This is the short, but I also snagged a medium cap to play with/make a final decision. Hope this helps!

That helps a lot actually! Looks like I'll be able to get away with the short, but I might also get a medium reg cap just in case I need that extra half inch. Mine doesn't have a drop forward, so the short might work. Thanks!

Glad I could help! Just to clarify, that's a ST Gunfighter 1.5 frame...not sure how much taller/shorter the 86 frame you're using is.

I use medium sidewinder with the low profile xsv/sconi asa and it’s basically a straight shot. I think for the inception rail asa combo might need a long?

Medium is the way. Lines up with a lot of the ASA's with front ports for autococker builds. Lines up perfectly with my sconi asa. I've got 4 of them now on different guns.

Inception is close but has about 1/8" dogleg down but close enough.
