    Sniper regulating: to sweet spot or not

    I've got this real nifty WGP build done and it's so comfy and even without air it's super smooth. Totally in love.

    Do you take the time to always sweet spot your regulator? Or do you use a gauge to set at the 3-350 range, call it good, adjust IVG?

    I sweet spot my HPR with a chrono, use the IVG to get to 280FPS, and then never think about it again.

      Like Moodog, I sweet spot my reg (once) and tune using the IVG. Once I find the absolute sweet spot on the reg I just raise pressure ~25 psig higher then not worry about it except when I have to redo the sweet spotting after a reg rebuild [I only rebuild when they go haywire]. I do the same thing with my Pyre.

        I sweetspot every time I maintain my reg, 2-4 times/year. I can just set the HPR to 350 and let her rip, but I feel (operative word) that the sound and shot quality is just a tiiiiiiny bit nicer when I sweetspot. It could be placebo as all I have in anecdotal, but it's not hard to do and it makes me feel like a fancy lad.

          Sweetspot - I believe it's the key to consistency, as much as having quality paint.

            It’s also key to safety. If you run your sniper significantly above the sweet spot, you will have a velocity spike as your tank pressure drops into that range. Depending on the setup it can be pretty significant. The best thing about a sweet spotted sniper is it will only decrease in velocity if you had a pressure spike.

              I no longer spend the time to sweet spot. I can never get under field velocity when my reg is sweet spotted. I just leave it around 325-350. Try to be around 270 with the IVG flush. This is with CCM internals.

                If you like your pump stroke and rest of the setup this sounds like a simple adjustment of upping the spring rate of your valve spring. Correct springing of the valve train is just as important as "sweet spotting" or any other adjustment. I personally like soft springing with longer dwells but if too soft a valve spring it can be hard to keep velocity down.
