I was originally going to build a pump, but plans changed and now I am building a mechanical System X Dragon. I haven’t done a mech building over 10 years (if not 15). So I’m a bit rusty.
I have built a few Snipers in that timeframe, though and I had this body up and running as pump, having borrowed CCM trigger frame from another gun. My Slice kit has since been moved over onto my Black Magic, replacing my older CCM kit. After this project is down I might have to build another Sniper out of spare parts….
For this mech build I’ve stuck with the original ram and LPR. The Dragon was an e-cocker, so ram and LPR should be able to handle mechanical speeds without issue. For 3-way I’ve gone with an ID 3-way. I have one on my Ressi and really like it. Nice short pull and very easy to adjust.
If you’re not familiar with System X, their LPRs are unique in that they replace the banjo bolt. So the front block is a little more streamlined than standard. you can put the 3-way a different position from a standard one as well. My 3-way runs under the LPR and ram instead of sticking up beside it.
For the frame I’ve gone with an ID Hinge Frame. I really wanted a Nummech hoseless frame but I got tired of waiting. I haven’t shot the frame with air yet, but it’s very light in your hand and the action is very smooth. I’m really looking forward to getting to shoot this frame.
For the internals I had intended on using the stock valve, but after encountering a leak after I disassembled it, so I popped in an ID valve and spring. It was a simple drop-in upgrade and worked immediately with no leaks, which I always nice.
As it stands I am waiting on my timing rod to be able to complete the assemble. The rod was out of stock when I ordered the 3-way (of course) but came back in stock once I had received my order. So along with the timing rod I have Trident bolt and a fancy gun case coming so I can gets the free shipping….
I currently have a Shocktech bolt, which is a very similar design to the ID Trident. Both have the three air passages. I’ll be sure to test out and see what the difference is. I know the trident bolt in my Empire Sniper has good FPS gains over a standard open faced ID bolt, and I expect some increases with Trident bolt over the Shocktech bolt, the question being how much though.
