Resources for a complete rebuild (Karnivor)

I dug up my old paintball gear from my parent's storage where my beautiful Karni has been shamefully hidden away for many years. I suspect the last time it was used was 2011.

Would really appreciate any advice or recommendations for everything necessary for a complete teardown and rebuild. Guides? Videos? Oring kits? It's been a loooong time since I've seen the internals of any of my markers so I want to take it slow and do everything as properly as I possibly can.

Would love to just ship this thing to Tim but money is tight.
Also, I have gun grease I use on my hunting rifle. Is that useful here? Recommendations on lubricants?

Any and all help is appreciated.

    Cheers!

Ooh, that’s a fun project! Karni’s are the same as any standard cockers except for the integrated cocking rod. Simon From ID has some great tech videos for cockers.

You’ve got two choices with how to proceed. Drop some oil in the ASA, air up the gun and see what leaks and triage or do a full breakdown.

You’ll likely need a cocker valve tool, o-rings and it’s worth getting some proper paintball gun oil and grease. Gun oil
might affect o-rings so I wouldn’t use it.

Good news is you won’t need to mess with your springs, which saves a lot of time. If you hit any roadblocks take some pictures and post them. Someone will know how to fix your issue.

Thanks! I am going the full breakdown route as I have no confidence in the integrity of any of the orings and I heard sand when I screwed on the barrel. This thing needs a proper clean.

      I'll check out the videos!

Check out a site called "autococker parts dot com", I was suggested them by other users as a resource. I also got a valve tool from them as well.

Had everything I needed and then some for my Shocktech Vortex. She's not 100% done, but getting close.

Do yourself a favor and get some new macro-line (if your gun uses it) as well as the small pneumatics hose for the front end. Cheap insurance to replace it now while you have it apart.

Wonderful suggestion! These people will definitely be helping me part with some money. I have braided line (which is better). Gorgeous marker by the way! Love the fade.

        Looking at:

        -Full kit of o-rings
        -Full kit of screws
-Dow 33 (do I need this?)
-Valve tool (I'm assuming I need this)
        -Foot of front end hose

        Am I missing something?

There is an O-Ring on the valve, and in order to do a full tear-down / clean / O-Ring replace, yes, get a tool.

Dow 33, I bought it, used it on my O-Rings. Not sure if it's the best thing ever, but seems to be okay for me. I'm sure others can chime in.

I would personally replace the valve and hammer springs while ya have it apart. You can source these from autocockerparts.com or eBay.be certain they are listed for a karnivor, as they fit differently than a standard cocker due to ICS. Good luck with rebuild and bring it back to feed.

Carnivore uses an 11/16ths valve so no tool required. Comes out like a Spyder valve.

Based on your post about paint prices I assume you're in the Barrie area? Tactical Sports is a great local resource for paintball specific parts.

Bolts Plus also have a brick and mortar in Barrie with screws in every thread, size, head and material imaginable. Cheaper than purchasing gun specific screws. No minimum purchase and not required to order from a catalog.

Orings can be had from any paintball store with their salt. You can order by size, material and hardness from several sites. There's also Hercules Sealing Products in Barrie. I've been in there a few times. It's more meant to be a pickup location, but they've helped me out when I showed up. I forget what their prices and selection are like but it's another option.

Pretty sure Karnis are standard valved. Been a while since I’ve torn it apart though.

No they are 9/16th regular valve held in place by the jam nut.

Cheers, yes i'm in the barrie area. I'll check out tactical. Bolts plus looks great but screw kits are so cheap I doubt it's worth it to make a special trip.

Karnis use regular 9/16 valves, you will need a valve tool. They were the last WGP gun to use them before they transitioned to the 11/16 valve with the 05 Black Magic. I wouldn't bother upgrading the valve though; the stock valve they come with is still one of the best.

Peng Kin on the Facebook is the karnivor master if you run into any issues, and here in Ontario, Sean at Sinister Tech is a bit of a cocker wizard too.

If you've rebuilt cockers before, it shouldn't be that different, but I do know that the Karnis have their quirks in the front end, especially with noid gaskets sealing. Best of luck.

Why the screws? Unless the ones on it are messed up there's really no reason

Yes on dow33, it's a grease that should be used in both regulators, the ram (don't miss the o ring that seals to the ram shaft at the rear!) and a light coating on any static seals

            Yes on valve tool

Order 2 feet of pnumatic hose, good to have spare

Why? Again like the screws, there's no reason to replace unless the ones in it are a problem.

If you need someone to talk to when you get stuck, I'm a trucker, and I have a nice headset, shoot me a message and I'll get you my phone number. I'm pretty experienced with cockers, here's mine

This needs some 3way hose skulls that Bobby D from The Boonie Boys makes!

I am missing some grip screws and, honestly, they are $10 a set.

If I get the dow do I need oil as well?

Probably smart to get the 2 feet, good suggestion.

Very generous offer! I may take you up on that although I loke the adventure of figuring it out. If I get stuck i'll give you a shout. Your marker is BEAUTIFUL I would be terrified to use that.

Yes on oil and lube. It's good to have both because if you run into a situation where the ram is sticking let's say, you can thin out the lube with a little oil and then you don't have to increase your LPR pressure

Yeah for sure, give me a call, chatting about paintball is a nice break in my day

Do you have the IVG adjuster tool already? You can make due without but they are nice to have

I use my cocker. I don't own wall hangers. With the exception of one backup marker, if I don't use it, it gets sold. But my cocker has been about a 7 year project (money constraints mainly).

Given you have that second cocker body you’ll want the cocker valve tool. They’re not expensive and very handy to have.

Also check your ball detents. If the guns have been sitting for years they may have jammed. Autococker parts has nice ones. Basically you want to make sure you’re got everything you could need in a single order so you don’t get bit by shipping costs.

Thanks. Yes the valve tool seems like a good thing to have around. I'll do my best to get it into a single order, hopefully I have a good idea of what I need.
