Autococker Frame Restoration

I have a slider frame where the coating is flaking away. There are a number of large patches like this. So I'm wondering:

1) What is the material that's flaking off? Nickel? It's very fine.
2) What's the best way to remove the coating? Sandpaper?

Internally it slides fine, I would just like to make it look better externally.

I assume that is nickel. I know I contacted a couple places that can strip it. I am told it is very harsh chemicals that is needed to be used. I contacted Arc to see how much to strip a plated cocker and ano it black. The quote was like $450. I think the problem is the metal underneath nickel plating is usually really harsh.

I jsut contacted a local Cerekote place and the guy said he could strip my Benchmark 45 slider frame. He said it would be no problem and pretty cheap to strip it and cerekote it gloss black. I need to make it over there for an official quote. I just am waiting for a .05" allen wrench to come in the mail so I can remove teh trigger shoe and beaver tail.

nickel looks yellowish and chrome more white. Looks more chrome to me…

I'd agree with latches. Looks like chrome. The finish underneath actually looks like nickel.

FYI…. You usually nickel something before you chrome something to act as an adhesive layer.

it’s chrome. Re-chrome it. But flaking is why I refuse to use chrome on anything I own.
