Back to Cockers...trying to resolve a leak (solenoid). Could use some help

Hi all
It's been a hot minute since I've last used a cocker (ok maybe 17 years). I've been back to paintball for the past 10 months now getting to play with my older son. I just pulled out my old Ripper cocker and fell in love again with them. I have since gotten a Dye cocker with Eblade to toy around with. It has a leak that I'm trying to figure out how to solve.

Some notes:
- It seems to have a CP (gen 3?) reg
- Looks to have original Dye LPR and maybe the ram (picture attached)
- Eblade E1
- CP ASA
- I'm using a non-adjustable HK Aero tank (I think it outputs 800psi)


Here is what I noticed (unfortunately ran out of air to keep tinkering for now. I'll fill up 2 tanks this weekend):
- When I open the ASA there is a massive loud leak coming out of the barrel. When the marker is cocked, it goes away and the leak is coming out of the solenoid
- I'm unable to adjust the LPR once the marker is gassed; when I close off the ASA, I'm able to adjust the LPR again
- Even when backing out the LPR the leak still seems to come out of the solenoid when cocked. I can't recall if it is less air leaking or not


Do you think it's the solenoid leaking or maybe it's the LPR? How can I test if it's the LPR first? Remember, as soon as I gas up the marker it's a very loud hiss coming out of the barrel (when got not cocked). As soon as gun is cocked, the leak comes out of the solenoid.

Any help on where I should start looking first would be great! Thank you!

The barrel leak isn't a concern, lots of cockers do that until cocked.

LPR probably needs a rebuild as I have had many a eblade leak from bad LPRs. Basically, pressure creeps to the point the solenoid can't take it anymore. To check if this is really the case, lower the pressure on the LPR, air it up and let it sit and see if it builds then cycle the marker while trying to hold the block forward. With the LPR low, it should be very easy to keep the block from moving, but if it is hard, it is probably pressure creep. You can also fire it many times in rapid succession to lower the pressure and see if it takes a second to leak again.

If it is not over pressure, it could be a leaking ram which can cause what seems like 3-way issues since pressure will leak past the ram seal and out the other exhaust of the solenoid.

Of course, it is possible you have a bad solenoid or seal

Thank you for the reply. I should add, the leak is constant and doesn't go away regardless if I'm firing or letting the marker sit there. It start as soon as I gas it up. When I gassed the gun, the leak from the barrel (un-cocked) is so loud it seems like I've connected my tank directly to the barrel lol. Once cocked it's not as bad. So unsure if I'm able to do that first test you mentioned.

I have a few solenoid gaskets coming in the mail this weekend. Based on above, I don't know if even replacing the gasket is the way to go as a first step (then again I'm not yet cocker tech savvy).

This evening after I get the tanks filled, I'll try again. I'll back out the lpr just shy of unscrewing the knob all the way. What would it mean if the leak is still significant coming from the barrel at that point?

Quick question...am I able to rebuild the LPR while still attached to the front block (by backing out the knob all the way out? Can I remove the internals that way?

It’s your LPR not regulating and dumping the HPR pressure, or both LPR and HPR are not regulating and dumping your tank pressure.
Rebuild all of it, don’t even waste your time chasing leaks.
You will need to remove the ram to rebuild safely and without damage. They are locktite on.
Remove the solenoid and inspect the gasket. They can crack but generally are good.

those dye regs are not great, i would ditch it on an eblade.

Order a new Inception 3way, and find a nice slider frame and all your problems will melt away! Plus no more batteries to worry about!

Pull the front hose off the ram and air it up. It's more likely your ram (which appears to be a shocktech) is leaking than the noid. By pulling the hose, you'll know if it is in fact the ram.

I agree, ram. That's the most common thing that presents as a leak through the noid.

Sounds like it needs a rebuild all around though.

The leak down the barrel is just the hammer resting on the valve before there's air holding the valve closed
