'06 Black Magic pump - Updating lower tube - Advice needed

Hi all,

Looking for some experienced opinions on 11/16th size lower parts. I haven't played in a decade but am bored and need to tinker with my only remaining marker.

Built out an '06 BM body from scratch back in 2010 (ANSgear special $150 raw BM body. Seemed like a good deal at the time). Compatible parts at the time were scarce; mid block, 11/16th lower, etc. Everything on the marker is where I want it except the lower tube. I ended up with Check It Products lowers (valve, hammer, lug, & IVG) and used CCM springs. I recall having issues with the marker achieving good velocity (couldnt get it consistently above ~275) and it 'tooted' pretty good too. There was enough blowback that it would push the bolt back a smidge every time I fired (probably causing part of the velocity problem). The easy fix was a firm grip on the pump handle, but annoying none-the-less.

Anyway, I see better options today for 11/16th valves and hammers. So... pro's / con's on the following:

• Leave it well alone and tune better (free)
• Shocktech PHAT rat for 11/16th ($40)
• Inception HF - Valve V3.0 for 11/16ths Bore ($60)
• DYE Lazarus (would have to have the lower tube further bored out). Leaning AWAY from this due to cost. (>$150 for boring and parts)

I read somewhere that the Lazarus valve didn't work int he 06 Black Magic, something about the lower tube tapering and not allowing it to be installed? It was on this site, might be able to find it for ya.

Another good option is an AKA Tornado valve. They've been the benchmark for efficiency and low pressure for like a decade.

I've never been a fan of the Shocktech valves. I've always hated aluminum valves, but my main issue with them is the cup seal material. It's so soft that I swear it makes it harder for the valve to open, leading to heavier springs being needed.

I've used an earlier Inception HF valve. I honestly didn't see too much improvement over my stock Resurrection valve, just slightly lower operating pressure.


I always encourage people to buy a spring kit, learn how to sweetspot their reg, and tuning their gun before buying more hardware. However, if you're just in a mood to tinker then go for a Tornado or Inception valve.

the stainless stock valve is great. Get better springs. tune and be happy.
