    Ram Bumper Orings?

Can the shaped ram bumpers in stock, Empire, KAPP, Inception etc be replaced with orings if needed? I know Shocktech already uses them.

Maybe it could be 3d printed in soft TPU if oring does not work. I was waiting to rebuild a ram to try it.

Shocktech uses orings? That's new cause they used standard STO ram bumpers in their OG ram.

I'm gonna say it would be possible to do it but it would take a lot of trial and error to find the right orings sizes. And you'd possibly have to glue the oring to the front of the ram piston, as there's a chance it could come off if the fit isn't perfect. They also wouldn't last nearly as long as the other bumpers if I had to guess, unless you found orings with a higher hardness than duro90.

If you're just trying to save money, I think it would be worth it to just buy the bumpers. The time you'd invest into getting the orings to work and money on the orings themselves would be greater than a set of ram bumpers.

I've gotta ask: why are you asking about this?

EDIT: just watched a video and was surprised to see Shocktech indeed updated their ram! They use 006 urethane duro90 orings for their bumpers. The problem is STO/KAPP/OG Shocktech/stock WGP rams will not have the lip that helps hold the orings on, they just have a threaded shaft. So you'd possibly have to use a 005 urethan duro 90 for those. For Evo/Empire/Inception rams, you'd also have to test which orings would fit firmly on the shaft (but these rams DO have a lip that would help keep the oring on the piston)... so it will still take some testing.

I'll stand by my statements that I doubt the orings would last as long as most bumpers (prob wrong tho lol). The bumpers on stock WGP, STO, KAPP, old Shocktech, etc where indestructible. And I've yet to have an Evo/Inception ram bumper go bad.

Just looking to future proof. The current stock of bumpers are ticking time bombs waiting to disintegrate. That and being in Canada doesn't make ordering replacements as quick, cheap or easy if I do need one.

Shocktech uses a 010 90D oring jammed into the front of the ram barrel. A 106 90D might work for a stock ram.

As I said before, the bumpers on most rams out there are practically indestructible. I could imagine Evo/Empire/Inception bumpers going bad tho. Has it been an issue for you? I've literally never had to replace a set of bumpers in any of my cockers. I'm personally more worried about cup seals running out than ram bumpers.

Yes, 006 work just fine. I have used them for years. It’s just a bumper, I haven’t had any fall off. Every stroke they are being slammed in place.

Proven wrong once again haha So 006 has worked on all the rams ya have tried it on? Figured STO style and Evo style rams might need different sizes.

yes on threaded standard shafts with no lip. The bumper is for comfort and part longevity, even if it falls off the ram will still operate. Use your best judgement - some shafts are a little skinny and I'll change the oring size to accommodate.
