I've got an 02 cocker but the rear frame screw is stripped. Would it be better to retap it a bigger size or use a helicoil?

Helicoil. Otherwise you also have to drill out the trigger frame

"One size up" is 12-28, which is, today, a somewhat hard to find thread, that you usually have to special-order, and then grind the screw to length. The next common size up is 1/4"-20, and yes, requires the grip frame to be drilled out.
AND... because of how coarse the 1/4"-20 threads are, you only get about one turn of engagement- they wind up being even easier to strip out than the original threads.
Heli-Coil is the correct fix, but they're tricky to install, as the insert is generally longer than the rear grip frame hole is deep.

I've seen metric screws used as well, but then you need one set of wrenches for the front screw, and another for the rear
Then you get it mixed up, use the wrong set on the screw and strip out the head of the screw
Now your are really up a creek and that's assuming the threads hold together through all that
Just helicoil it

CCI sells really nice 10-32 threaded inserts that work great. They do require trimming for a Cocker application, and a special tap to install, but I prefer them over helicoils.
