Seems like people favor the kp3, but they are so hard to find. Is there a specific reason they favor this over the newer one? What are the cons of the kpc+?

kp3 vs kpc+

Honestly I think the KP3 just cornered the market earlier on. There were several years where the KP3 was the cheapest (and oftentimes only) off the shelf pump available in store (both the big online sites and brick and mortar).
They then tried to undercut themselves with the original KPC, which didn't have an adjustable regulator, on/off, lever lock feedneck, dual pump arms or barrel kit. Plus it's uglier (imo). There probably wasn't enough of a price drop to justify them over a KP3 - new or used.
The KPC+ added the autotrigger, Hitman mod and some of the previously lacking features that imo actually make it a better value than the KP3 on paper. But it's still ugly (or perhaps uglier). And I don't think Azodin marketed the update to the '+' very well so most people probably still think it's just the original KPC.
And I think many people prefer the larger delrin pump handle of the KP3.

The kp 3 has a relatively unique valve poppet that is pressure balanced. It is highly insensitive to supply pressure, unlike a traditional valve.
It's a really interesting design, but I still find it puzzling. The springing can be lighter, but the kp trigger can't really take advantage of it due to the disconnecting sear.
The pressure stability is also a mixed thing. Regulator variations go straight through to the ball. Our local group has had several occasions of reg failure, which doesn't bother the valve. It just shoots at around 425 fps.

Interesting. Well right now my options are the kpc+ or building a sniper pump that I have a prostock body for. Obviously 1 is a lot more expensive than the other but I was really only gonna make a pump if these kpc+s are that cheap/bad. I know about the reg failures, I have an extra hyper 3 I can throw on if needed, but if the pump itself is significantly worse than say building one, maybe it is worth it to build ?

TacSpn5 I would not say they are bad at all. Not much different than other pumps. They are difficult to tweak ergonomically. If you don't like the feel, there's little to be done about it.
The internals have several little steel parts that need to be kept clean and lubed. That is not uncommon.
