Recently I re-acquired my very first paintball marker... a grey Talon. Decades later and three states away, she is once again with her rightful partner.
Throughout high school, I modified the everlasting p!ss out of this thing. Drilled out the metal powertube to ~0.220", elongated the holes in it, too. Filed down the lip on the valve nut. Clipped the valve spring. Permanently installed a 16" straight rifled CMI ThunderPig Spyder barrel.
I, for whatever reason, didn't cut out the quick change window in the left body shell. Nor did I equip a metal pump arm. Those are things that I have done to easily a dozen different Talons, but my original didn't get such modifications (at the time... it probably will now, though).
I still have the original C/A adapter for it, too. So, naturally, I stuck a SLPS spring kit in it. I will be controlling the velocity via a CMI-2000 inline regulator (to go with the CMI barrel). For a janky plastic pistol, the pump stroke isn't too terrible.
Taking it apart to clean two decades worth of corrosion from the insides, I realized just how superior this is to the ER2 in terms of construction. It has machine screws with threaded brass inserts. Metal powertube. Metal bolt. The ER2 has a bigger valve chamber, the 2nd detent, and a few other desirable features, but this isn't a competition of features. I was simply comparing their construction.
I still need to get my CMI regulator from my friend, and fix the cup seal situation... go figure, my 13yo self didn't file the valve nut exactly straight. That's what happens when you stay up to 3am on a school night, dicking with paintball stuff.
