So im just about done gathering parts and mocking up. About to tear it down to get the frame anodized and ASP detents done.

Here's my build:
- CCI / EV body, stock class, right offset
- Cue ball pump
- 8" freak bored barrel (factory bored)
- Sergi Humpback frame w/ CCM delrin grips
- Mongo 12-round feed
- Rocker Paintball roller trigger
- Redz ASA (on the fence, doesn't fit the clean lines of the rest of the build)
- Ninja 13/3000 (will be replaced with an ICD lever-changer once back in stock)

Debating between the cue ball and the mini clear acrylic handle I have. Both feel really good and look great in their own ways.

First Phantom I've owned, and absolutely love working on it. Can't wait for the weather to get nicer and hit the fields.

I would go with a different ASA. Especially if I was spending the cash to have it all anodized. I would get a stock and Bucket changer and have it all done at the same time. Even if you don’t plan on using it that way. It’s going to add a lot of value especially with a nice custom Ano job.

Really nice build tho what Ano and pattern you thinking of going. You should do the tank to match.

I have a CCI / EV bucket changer, could throw that on as well.

Was only going to have the grip frame anodized for now, not the whole build.

If I was going to do the whole build, it would be a toss up between a cotton candy theme, or a classic fade like the old-school ACs had (tequila sunrise for example).

I would go gloss black on the frame then.

Those fades were awesome. That would look great on a phantom.

Don't be afraid to suck at stock class.

Even start days with the stock class setup and swap bodies to the centerfeed mid day to get you some firepower upgrade to remember how much the stock class is really holding you back (rather than just feeling like you suck all day)

+1. There's a meaty learning curve to SC, especially vs. OC players. You gotta take a few beatings and hits off the break before it starts to click, but once it does my god it's a rush.

Stock class feed with constant air is a way shorter curve - counting shots per 12g is quite the change - but dropping the weight of the tank is a great feeling once you do it. It's like pointing a broomstick at a guy and shouting "bang" instead of swinging 8 pounds of gear and paint to bear.

Yeah. It really takes multiple days to get the basic skills handy enough. You see a lot of stock class rigs for sale in mint condition for a reason. You think they're cool, you get one, and then you feel like you suck when you use it, so you don't use it. Gotta learn those elite skills.

Thanks for all the comments. For now, ill be running the 13/3000 until the ICDs come back in stock. Regardless, there will be a bottom-line ASA so I can go back and forth.

Getting use to the 10 round sticks will take some adjustment, so I'll probably just try those first lol.

As of right now, the body is out at ASP, and the grip frame is at ARC.

Still debating on Slims play in May. Id love to go for both days, but its probably just going to be Saturday.

That’s great the body is at ASP. I waited too long to have mine done, you’re be really happy with the results.
The detents really shorten the learning curve when you don’t have to be as concerned with rollouts or double feeds

Definitely check out Slims games if you can swing it. It’s the best way to experience true Stock Class games. I probably have an extra ICD changer I can let you use for the day if you want to try one, if you come out let me know I will bring it with me.

with the ASP mod you can use any fixed bore barrel without inserts or any detent rings as the O rings from the ASP mod take care of both double feeds and roll outs. Its a very excellent way to go. Experiment with consistency and velocity with your freak inserts rather than requiring them to keep your gun from roll outs.

That Cue Ball looks nice on there! I don’t think I ever even mounted it on one of my Phantoms…
Anyway, the Grenade ASA looks fine if you are going for a “Bombastic” build, but I have two ASA suggestions that I really like.

If you are ok with no on/off, and the grip frame is tall enough for your hand that it won’t be cramped with a close set tank reg, then I highly recommend a low profile “XSV” style front outlet ASA. MasterSconi makes a nice version (and super cheap at $15). The straight back, tight setup is perfect for me on my Ditto Deuce, with its rather tall “Humpback” grip. I don’t really have to worry about any interference with my grip from the tank gauge, fill nipple, or burst disks. It would probably feel cramped with average size hands in a CCM 86 Phantom grip and FS short regulator combo though.

For a On/off ASA…I am a huge fan of the Bob Long Cam Drive dovetail ASA. At the tank pressures you have for a Phantom, it is MUCH easier to actuate than a PE POPs for example (and I just think it looks better).
Here is the Sconi “XSV” ASA on my Ditto Deuce, and the Cam drive in my Phoenix.


Good luck! Remember, if you get discouraged with “rock and cock” but still like the excitement of limited paint and 10 round tubes…the take the “rock” out of the equation.
Spring feeds, slightly angled stick feeds, etc reduce a lot of the learning curve and stress.
Once you start playing “stock class” you will see that there will be very few times (if ever) that you will NEED to run a strict “Stock Class” layout to be able to play.
Usually these days, groups are happy to even be able to field a pump only game (and 90% will have pocket hoppers, HPA tanks, and auto triggers), that they are totally fine with “12 gram powered and reloaded with 10 round tubes” being the only restrictions enforced if a more limited paint play is desired.

Just my two cents.
As Cunha said…expect to SUCK at rock and cock at first. It part of the fun!
