Alright, I know some of you out there rock a sight of some kind on your Phantom. Red dots mostly.

Do you like the OEG/keep both eyes open, or a regular 'ol battery powered red dot? And WHY?

I don't like the OEG sights because I've got a bit of a wandering eye. The dot tends to go walking around on me when I focus on it. The other downside is that they require you to expose more of yourself when shooting. They were designed at a time when real red dots were sci-fi high end gear. These days, there's no excuse in my mind when you can get cheap red dots all day long.

My issue with OEG's is its harder to track a ball being shot since you are forcing one eye to essentially "give up" on tracking since it is behind the sight. OEG's force you to rely on the other eye to compensate. Shooting through a red dot at least gives you the option of seeing through the glass.

Paintballs aren't super accurate, and have terrible ballistics, but any sort of sight at least gives you a nice frame of reference. I have always shot well with ghost rings on Phantoms.

I have one of those no-name red dots from eBay. It’s more “fun” than useful. It works, no question, and I don’t hate it. I don’t use it though. It’s just that I can snap shoot anything by eye and muscle memory with my Phantoms faster than I can shoulder a gun and sight it conventionally. If paintballs always travelled true or if they could even go 200 feet it would be a different story.

I’ve never used the CCI ghost ring. I’ll eventually get one of those and try it. It seems like all the accuracy you could ever actually use. When the Trracer was my main machine I would use the sights built into that and it was more than what the gun could justify.

I think most people try to use dot sights in the wrong situations. They're best for posting up on shots that are like 20 feet away. They guarantee gimmie shots at close range that you sometimes miss if you just eyeball it.

This. I had an Adco on a Sterling back in the day, and I'd never miss once I was posted. Snap the guy in, then just wait for the shake and send one an inch off the bunker. I'm just not that consistent by muscle memory.

I may grab a red dot for shits and grins and see if it helps longer shots. If nothing else, make the Phantom look like a fancy cool sniper to the newbies.

I don’t like sights on paintball markers I point shoot everything it’s quicker and more consistent. Especially on a Phantom it’s so easy to just look right down the outside edge straight down the barrel. I prefer this method because it doesn’t matter what marker you pick up they will all aim and the same.
