Howdy brain trust, maybe you guys can help me figure this out. I recently got this phantom in a trade and it airs up and shot fine, but I noticed there was more friction than I was used to on my other phantom. After cleaning it disassembling it And cleaning it again the friction didn’t go away. Added an appropriate amount of lube each time. I placed everything back together and I’m noticing a unique wear pattern in the body where the bolt meets the end of the breach. Seems like the bolt has a lot of wear as well but I don’t understand why it’s grinding.

This may work and what I always try first. Loosen both frame screws slightly(enough to have some play but, not falling out). Then pump the marker several times. See if it loosens up/smooths out more. Then tighten the screws back up and see if that did the job. If not, you may also have a slightly bent pump rod.

Looks like the rod was in fact bent. There is somewhere in it where it has been sheared and then it got some pitting I suspect that you guys are right and it has mushroom out that piece of the body slightly. So what’s my move here? Do I knock down the burr that’s been created with sandpaper and get a new pump rod? I wonder if I have ruined my bolt

update, used a pump rod from my other phantom and had the same result. It seems to be grinding after about five or six pumps in that same spot. I can’t ascertain as to why.Last edited by Winklebottom; 09-01-2024, 04:02 PM.

Jeeper, it’s an Ev2.0 body with detents. Looks almost new.
duck, it’s a cci trigger frame and the channel looks cleaner than my old phantom if a little tighter.
I may have solved the issue.
I pulled every piece and changed it out with my old phantom to try to isolate the problem. The hardline on the Vert asa was slightly askew. I think this put asymmetric pressure on the frame enough that the pump rod was catching the frame and ground away part of it and creating a burr on the channel. After taking 2000 grit to the burr and straightening the hardline, cleaning and oiling everything it seems to be functioning now.
nothing like wasting three hours of your day to unduck a phantom that probably was only ducked because I didn’t pay close enough attention.

thanks Duck, just wish I had figured that out BEFORE I fucked up the metal. My only solace is the hope that I probably didn’t break it. If I have learned anything these things are hard to break. Carp and Ecap were right the side pressure was probably just enough to get the pump rod out or alignment enough to shave metal.

Well I thought I has it solved with the last update but the gun won’t return to battery while gassed. It took hours yesterday disassembling the marker, sanding the burr down, clean with alcohol/water, lube, reassemble, check the stroke. Note metal still shaving, note pump rod NOT making contact with body(removed feed and watched every stroke through loading hole). See metal shavings start to appear, Scratch head, repeat. Swapped out old bolt from my working phantom, no shavings, returned to battery when gassed. Guess it had to be something with the bolt, found some rough pitting right on the edge near where the pump rod goes in, perhaps that pitting caught the corner and caused the grinding.
In any case, it works now like actually.
