    phantom internal change history

How many changes have there been to phantom internals throughout its history?

I am asking because I recently picked up a very old phantom and the internals are slightly different.

    Got pics?
I know the tpc in the bolt has changed over the years.
Don't know about valves and hammers.

      There was two internal varieties....

Original - open face bolt, long power tube

      And

TPC (tuned port compensator) - flat faced bolt short power tube.

The hammers and sears have some "generations" too.

The earlier anti-kink hammers are cylindrical, with rounded corners, and a sharp- cornered sear. The latest hammers are crowned - the OD is cut on a wide radius across almost the whole length - and the sears are taller under the nose, and rounded.

Are the new hammers and bolts cast? I had a EV bolt break away and chip.

I had a late CCI bolt do the same several years ago - I wonder if they're investment cast, or just were plated wrong and got hydrogen embrittled.

Up near the o-ring, or back by the sear ramp?

                Near the oring

Should be machined and coated. But if you install the UC kit without the locking washer between the bolt and pump plate it will enter the breach and hit on the bolt face. If forced it will chip the lower area that holds the oring on the bolt face. That’s the most common damage done to bolt. Won’t effect function just looks bad.

when looking at the bolt that chipped and the old OG bolt they are different materials. The old bolt seems like it would dent, not chip.

I have what I'm going to call "2nd gen" (on the right) and "3rd gen" internals (on the left). SN are 20k and 21k IF the frames match the guns. I think I had a 45k SN on the 3rd gen initially.

Bolts are both TPC but appear identical. 3rd gen had an o-ring TPC; I had to cut the groove for an o-ring myself on the 2nd gen.

The hammers are different. I put a 007 sear in the 2nd gen, but the original sear is shown below it. A 3rd gen sear is there for comparison. (I have a lot of leftover Phantom sears.)

Anyone have photos of 1st gen or EV internals?

I have quite a collection of Phantom internals sitting in storage. I will also pull those out and get some good images. I wonder if we collected them together if Mike would be willing to give a short write up on the evolution of his internals. I know he did things to address actual problems experienced in the field and was willing to make changes but really did not just "willy Nilly" make modifications without an experienced need for change.

Thanks for the picture reference, I have different sets in some Nelson mutts, and wondered why the difference. Is the 2nd generation on the right?

Yes - the older ones are on the right.
