    EMek Troubles

Hey guys, so I've been fixing guns at a local field for a while now, and I just started into some EMeks.

The issues on the problem guns are a couple of things. Firstly, when I stick my finger into the breach and fire, the low force bolt is noticeably harder than one that is working 100%, and frankly I wouldn't call it low force at that point. Next is a sticky 3 way. When I pull the trigger with my finger in the breach and hold it, I will hear a leak (sometimes, not sure from where), and it will sometimes take a second or 2 after I release the trigger for the bolt to retract (sometimes I will have to pull the trigger again to get it to release my finger).

I've rebuilt the 3 way and greased it (lightly) and rebuilt the gamma core except for the switch because I wasn't sure how to get it out. I also lubed the bottom 2 orings on the bolt guide, although I watched Jack Wood's video later, and he didn't. I've also tried a variety of reg pressures, but no change.

So what do you guys think? I'm not sure if I'm dealing with a single issue or multiple. Also, the grease I was using was the Flasc grease (not sure if that's dow33 or what), and not eclipse grease.

I did a quick google search on Flasc grease since I have not heard about it, based on the pictures it looks like Dow 55. Personally I would wipe the bolts clean and apply dow33 grease.

Use the supplied dow 33 grease. If what ilivlife is saying about what grease you used is anything like Dow 55 it will swell Orings. This could create a ton of issues for you. That’s why PE highly recommends there grease it’s just re branded Dow 33.

I would wipe it all off and try using the proper grease. If that dose not work you may have to replace the Orings specifically the ones on the inner can, outer bolt and small valve Orings. Anything that has to move freely the ones that are just sealing Orings should be fine but anything that needs to move and seal may need replacing if you want to ever get any kind of efficiency out of it again.

If it were my marker I would completely tear it down replace all the Orings with new and regrease it with the right stuff. You can order full rebuild kits straight from PE. If you email them they may send you what you need. But keep in mind they don’t have to warranty it. Even tho they might because PE is awesome like that.

If an Emek "chuffs", "half cycles", "trigger sticks", "takes a long time to reset" it's the valve orings 99.9% of the time. If you gat a bunch of markers doing that I would start there.

Ok thanks guys. I don't have a ton of experience using paintball grease, but yes I do know that dow55 swells orings. What kind of visual difference is there between 33 and 55?

I guess I'll go through and strip all the moving orings then. I'm not sure the field owner is going to be too happy.

Actual dow33 and dow55 look identical. Its all in the packaging. I would start with just the valve Orings especially if they are rentals. I don't know the sizes off hand but you could buy a bag of them in bulk cheap. This should get them working.

Don't get the color ones they are junk. Get the Black Bunna ones.

I figure the field owner would be more upset if they don’t work. Dead guns don’t make money, orings are cheap in bulk, DOW 33 (PE grease in bulk might be cheaper) can be purchased at NAPA Auto Parts or online and will save everyone a headache down the road and a tube will last a long time. If you need to source affordable bulk orings: https://www.theoringstore.com/store/ and use the PE oring finder app if you need sizes and locations, if you don’t have the book. I think the only orings you’ll have to get from PE is the 3-way #6.

According to the manual they are 4x1 NBR70 I think that’s a metric size.

Looks like it’s a “special o ring” .49 cents a piece They don’t give you the actual size of the Oring. I find it hard to believe they made a special size specifically for the valve. They are just not giving you the actual size to cross reference it with. Maybe shoot there tec a message see if they will give you the size so you can buy them in bulk. They may even send you a bunch if you explain what happened.

It's a 4x1 oring (which doesn't come in PE rebuild kits), NBR70 is material and durometer.

4x1 is Planets Reference on size.

I would get what you need from PE if he’s using wD40 on em. PE probably isn’t going to do much for the guy. But the wrong grease and WD is 100% the issue with the markers. They probably need to be rebuilt with new Orings.

It's mostly the fact that I've basically scrapped many of the orings in the rebuild kit. TBH the owner is probably fine with how the EMeks are performing at the moment anyway. 90% of the rental guns walk the line of working and not. That's what you get using WD40 as your go to lubricant (and 'fix' in general).

Don’t knock the WD40. It’s got me out of some pickles and more to follow. I understand running through orings and quick “solutions” but it’s the cost of maintenance. Buy in bulk and replace when necessary. You can also build oring bundles to sell to patrons if they need or want spares.

I will concede this: WD40 and other spray lubricants are good for solving issues with rental guns in the field (at least enough to get through the game). However, when it is the main lubricant of choice, even in the shop, bad things will happen.

This field is a bit unique, because their main rental gun is a stbb from the early 2000s which is no longer made, and parts are scarce for. Before I showed up I don't think any real maintenance was done at all. If a gun wouldn't recock, their solution was to spray WD40 into the breach and try firing until it did. All this did was loosen the paint/dirt/aluminum bits in the top tube, and cause it to run down and harden in the bottom tube and sear slot. They also don't bother to check the breaches for dirt or broken paint before putting them back out. Even their tippmanns and BTs don't work. There is always gross amounts of stuck on dirt visible on the hammer through the cocking slot.

As for the orings, we already do purchase orings in bulk. It doesn't really make sense to for the EMeks though, because there is only about 10 of them, as they are offered as an upgrade.

That is odd the 4x1 NBR70 would not be included...I double checked my spare parts to be sure. Time to email PE for extras.

I honestly don't remember anymore. I haven't been into this field to work for over a month, and haven't teched here for at least 2.

Like I said earlier, the owner just doesn't care if his guns work properly or not. He sends out guns that sputter and decock every few shots and still makes money hand over fist.
