I have never seen that attitude anywhere except drunken birthday parties or AGG speedballers in all these years. Fortunately I won't have an issue w either.

Ok guys, let's not spiral this into... whatever.
magfed sniper - Awesome that you are building a new field, and I applaud the dedication to trying to push magfed to new heights. I was into the sniper stuff a few years ago and loved trying to get every inch out of a sniper and really push the limits of what we could do with barrels, fps, etc.
But... MCB is primarily focused on old school/pump stuff, so you might get some push back from those who aren't hardcore into magfed. I tend to think of it more as a friendly sibling rivalry. Old school guys and stock class players paved the way and kept up the good fight through the "speedball/high ROF era", until magfed made its way into popularity. And now its a huge advantage to play FSR over roundball, so we get a little tired of being outgunned by something with such a huge advantage. Aka little brother gets the new/shiny thing when we had to deal with something not as cool. (Ex - I got a used car with a bum transmission for my first car... my sister got a brand new Ford Focus)
But regardless, you will get a LOT of sarcasm, inside jokes, etc here on MCB. Don't take it seriously, as its not meant that way. Welcome to the forum, and I look forward to seeing some progress.
Oh and by the way... you won't find any "AGG" stuff here. (And I can tell you've been at this a while since I haven't heard that term since 2012!)Comment

I would never use FSR in a pump game. My format has heavy guns to balance the FSR just try to keep hoppers out of it is all. -
Why not, I would do a stock class, single shot pistols only, FSR game 😀. Would I do it in my own back yard though? Maybe not. Those little shards of brightly colored plastic tend to hang around for a long time. But that just me, not a jab at your idea of fun.
Like others said, this is primarily old school paintball, no agg here. The Northeast stock class scene is the most honest group of players I've ever been witness to.
Do you're thing man, if you do it right, people will show up. And when they do show up, take the feedback and use it wisely.

I didn't think this one or the other pb forum showed much interest in Mag Fed (both dead) so I will just use social media for updates as we finish the field. I was never going public w it but we are putting a lot into it including a CQB training facility and other factors that Mag Fed players appreciate.
I'll probably have pump events too because I wanted to do one event a month in addition to sniper comps, etc. Right now its just our team and friends and it's probably best it stays that way until I find other Hard Core Mag Fed players.

Myself: I competed in the "Top Paintball Sniper", East Coast, U.S. back in 2011.
If I remember correctly, there was the initial, Canadian event, followed by West and then East Coast U.S. events, all ran by the same folks (they used to run a website "www.toppaintballsniper.com/" now only visible via the internet archive). Am I correct in assuming that you don't have any relationship to those previous events?
I'm happy to hear about your game format (this is separate than the Top Paintball Sniper event right?). I firmly believe that a diverse projectile and gun format game allows for a more varied game play experience. I used to run a T9 with First Strikes at a field that rented RT A-5s and allowed full auto. I had a blast and, I had to work hard to maintain my slight edge over the others. I'm a few states over so, I don't think I'll ever be a regular customer but, I hope to make it out there sometime.

See, I need your input. When the heat subsides I would like to put together a Top Shooter competition with both FSR and roundball divisions to kind of pave the way for Top Paintball Sniper. Some of my best memories in life are big paintball events and I have waited a long time to get this land and get started. You having competed makes your input gold to me.

As for FSR fins, they are a PITA. The field will be for special events but I watched many fields deal w the public and I won't be doing that, heh. It's not something I need to make money on, which is why it will be awesome 😎Comment

I have limited knowledge on how to run such an event. I can only comment on my observation as a competing participant. That being said, I will call out the things I liked and disliked.
I liked that it was run as a series of stages with each focusing on different blends of skills.
The first stage was based on using your shots (only 7, in 2 minutes) on oversized playing card targets to assemble a poker hand, with more valuable cards at distant ranges.
The second stage was a series of shooting platforms, decreasing in value as you get closer to the target. You have 2min and 5 shots to choose and successfully place hits, with each hit scored based on the position you hit it from. You can change platforms as you see fit, within the time limit.
The third stage was kind of a memory and shooting test (5shots). You're shown a card with 5 target symbols on it. At the start, you have to move to position, recognize the correct targets, and take the shots, with each correct target being worth points.
Fourth is shooting from awkward positions, with an easy target at first, and after you hit that first target, the second is exposed, rinse and repeat, with increasingly valuable targets.
The fifth stage was the stereotypical sniper stalk and shoot (ghillies optional), with all competitors in play simultaneously, starting from the same location. The target is at the other end of the rectangular field. In this case, was an overgrown blueberry orchard with a clearing at one end, and tree lines along the left and right sides of the field. The snipers have to successfully sneak to a shooting location (of their choice on the field, without being seen) and, with a single shot, hit the target. There are two refs at the target. One acts as the 'spotter' looking for the snipers but spending the first 30sec of the stage with his back to the field. The other was purely responsible for measuring the distance of the shooter to the target, and notifying the snipers that have been spotted by the spotter, which takes them out of the stage. I was the only person to successfully sneak and take a shot. My only problem with this stage was that the target was a human outline, on a flat target (i.e. posterboard) just a couple inches wider than the outline on either side. To explain, understand that a direct face on shot to the target would be from a 90deg angle (relative to the target). My shot was from 30deg (mostly from the target's left side, but still forward of the target and the spotter). The whole board was narrow to me, backlit by the sun and, I couldn't make out the outline and, while I hit the board, it was just outside of the outline on the right edge. If the board had been the shape of the outline, it wouldn't been an issue of being able to see the outline. We weren't shown the target before the start.
There was a tie breaker at the end where the tied competitors (8shots each) fired at the same target at progressively longer ranges until one of them misses while the other hits.
As an aside, I was lucky to get second place. There were very few guns capable of shooting FS rounds and, very few barrels for them. Tiberius had just (a couple months prior to the competition) partnered with LAPCO to release the first rifled barrel specifically for FS rounds and the T9.1. I was the first to discover that this barrel/projectile combo could in about 100rds (i.e. managing to shoot that much without a break necessitating a cleaning) lead to enough fouling that a shot would get stuck in the barrel. A couple weeks later, in the competition (where I cleaned the barrel between every stage to prevent the problem), I observed huge velocity differences from shot to shot (two shots falling short of the target even after elevating, and the third shot going way faster than the other two, and overshooting). Subsequent controlled testing I conducted (later in the same month after the event), showed that the T9.1 regulator, couldn't reliably dispense air at the necessary PSI when paired with an 850PSI air source. You would get literal +/- 20FPS deviations from shot to shot. This killed me in stage 2 and, made me much more conservative throughout the rest of the event.
The event runners heavily advertised sponsor support and that literally amounted to nothing that I can remember. Like maybe a sponsor sticker and a silicone tank cover? I came in second and, I don't recall getting anything. I think we had around nine competitors, with each of us putting $100 in. Some of the money was expected to go to the Wounded Warriors Canada. I wasn't bitter about the experience, just rather noting that the sponsors, who had their names all over the event, did or provided hardly anything that went to the competitors, or benefited the event runners (beyond a banner or two). I would go to another event like this just for the experience.
As for what could make it better maybe more than just the competition. The comp took the better part of a day. Maybe another day to make a weekend out of it (i.e. a second day of sniper-centric, non-competitive games, or just a day-long scenario event) makes it easier for folks to justify the travel. A lot of other things (i.e. vendors) are incredibly dependent on the expected turnout.

Got it. 3d targets, supporting events for the competition and maybe some games. Also I wasn't planning on charging anything but then I can't offer prizes either. Much to work out thanks so much for the valuable feedback. Some of the events sound like they were well structured.Comment
