    Old Marker Worth It?

    Hey all,

I had an old Spyder Rodeo given to me, and I know nothing about these markers. It looks a little rough, is it worth doing anything with? Or just hang it on the wall as an ornament?

Depends on what you would consider "worth it"

Get it working and you can always sell it on a local craigslist. I would expect $40-60 depending on exact condition

It will also shoot fairly reliably if you need a backup marker

Good loaner if you have a friend come with

As long as you are not expecting the world out of it, it's a good shooter

If you want to keep it see about replacing the front block with an ASA threaded one and replace the regulator with a gas through grip (the Kingman regulators are actually a downgrade). You will have a nice backup/loaner that will work as well as any other decently made STBB.

Sometimes after handling spoolies and poppets, getting my hands on a good ol’ blowback with some real feedback is kinda fun. They’re loud but really simple guns and are a joy to work on, I find. Spyders are nice because if you have a bag of tank orings you can rebuild the entirety of the marker, save for the regs or asa.

I agree with the other posts - just run a Spyder at high pressure. The reg just gets in the way.

Awesome thanks. Would parts for these still be fairly available? The bolt looks pretty scored up on top when looking down through the feed, I have yet to get it apart and check everything over. It may be a write off if the bore is rekt as well.

The parts are common and can be found easily.

Pshhhh, none of that matters. As long as nothing is like bent, it can work

Most of us here have any of the parts you would need. I'm pretty sure your can still get everything new as well

the bolts and bores all get rickety wrecked on spyders...

the bolt and stryker are attached at the back. when the stryker moves forward, it wants to spin the bolt (azz over tea kettle).

there is probably 3 to 5 o-rings in the marker and only one or two would prevent the marker from firing. the spyder platform is as basic as it gets.

*note. you have a rodeo... that has an inline reg. that is whats going to give you the most amount of issues... lol
you can slap a CP reg on it and call it a day or just go without a reg. it operates at 800psi or so.

the rodeo is also a chunky boy and is pretty heavy.

Yeah I have a MCS 468 which is based off the Spyder. It's really nice to work with

Yeah, I'll probably just end up going reg-less. Unless there is a way to remove the reg internals and just make it an air through. I might fool around with it a bit.

Yes, yes it is lol. Also tonnes of trigger travel.

You’d have to use a tap set to thread all ports on the reg and fill them with set screws. Possible to do, and maybe desirable if you’re hoping to keep factory look of the gun.

You’re right about the trigger, and it’s one reason I prefer Tippmann blowbacks. Tippys natively have a pretty short pull compared to mech Spyders. You can shorten the pull a bit by cutting a small 1/4” section from a framing nail and inserting it into the trigger return spring. You’ll have to remove the frame and the trigger hinge pin, put in the nail piece, reassemble, test, disassemble, shave off a bit more metal from the shim, rinse and repeat until your trigger’s post travel is mostly eliminated. Or you could drill a hole in the trigger and install an adjustable grub screw.

But you could also just leave it as it is 😉

lol there is allot of travel forward and back as well as side to side. Not the most refined trigger out there. just leave the trigger as what it is and have fun with it.
I had to look it up and i was wrong. you cant just slap a CP reg on it. the rodeo does not use a standard asa...
you would either need an adapter to run a threaded reg "bonnet" or swap out the front block with a standard threaded asa.

that acid cammo anno is something though. love the SE with that.

That's not the only issue, cps generally max out at around 500psi. That's really low for an otherwise stock spyder

                    good call.

simplest thing to do is get another front block and have either a braided hose or gas through grip.

Front blocks are a dime a dozen. I'd get one of them. Then, grab a regulator on the cheap and you're off to the races.
