    Gen 1 parts availability

How is parts availability for the Gen 1 Spyders (crown barrel, no choker screw)
I know ball detents are harder to find, but what about things like cup seals and springs? I've never owned a Spyder so I don't know how interchangeable parts are between generations.

There are oodles of bits available. The striker is larger in the older Spyders requiring a 016 oring. The valve remained the same for many years as did the springing for the full bodies. Compact bodies will need a different valve spring. Cup seals and valve stems are the same. Bolts are the same as well.

the one thing thats hard to find is something that simply doesn't go bad, the striker. its a big 'ol honkey piece of steel. the o-ring on the other hand, can and will go bad. not hard (or expensive) to replace though.

one thing that will give you a hard time is not roll-out but rather roll-forward. this marker was made when paint was physically bigger. because of that, modern paint will tend to roll forward a bit. this will leave room for the paint above to dip down slightly behind and has a greater chance of getting clipped by the bolt of breaking.
the work around is to glue a thick o-ring on the face of the bolt.

as for swapping parts, most everything will fit everything else. the older markers were all shiny/gloss. iirc when kingman sold to KEE, the markers were all matte finished. most of those parts will also transfer over as well but its more hit/miss with them.

that marker you have there is a classic kingman spyder. (not to be confused with the spyder "classic" model lol

you can make this thing into a pretty cool paint slinger.
