Magazine Misfeeds

I have 2 TGR2 magazines that will misfeed when nearing the end of the mag and either not feed or half feed a ball. The follower will stop part way down the tube but when I press down on the latch to release the ratchet there's no more spring tension. Then when I rewind it fully and release the ratchet the follower will shoot to the top. Any ideas?

Photo is of a stuck follower with me holding down the ratchet release. When it gets like this with paint in the mag I'm able to push down on the stack and gets tension but it won't feed any further.
