Regardless of actual field cost and business practices... do you have a good sense of population in your area? People do travel but not a lot. The biggest Magfed locations I'm aware of are New York, Southern California, and North Carolina.
You would be competing with annual games that are relatively expensive for most players, meaning you are competing over their budget to get to the field.
If you have the land maybe start grass roots instead of a full on business investment, and grow with demand. Combining it with defense skill training would be helpful for getting your name out there.
But again being in Oregon you are competing over travel budgets... which the cost of traveling has doubled or tripled for some people (me) making it almost impossible to travel further distances for a paintball game.
Platoon Leader is the next big Magfed game this June in North Carolina. The last one was Bones and Ashes also in North Carolina, which had a very high turn-out, 1000 players?, so people are definitely into playing magfed.
