I broke down and picked up a PMC magwell to use with my M17 so that I could make use of the much lighter ZetaMags I have for my TiPX. In the kit is a plastic detent that is supposed to hold paint inside the gun, but when I tested it out, I consistently get three balls that drop out each time I try to swap the mag. I've already confirmed that the detent is installed properly. Does this detent work only for FSR or am I missing something here?

It looks like my theory was correct. The D shaped hole is the reason why roundball didn’t stay in past the detent. After modeling and printing a new round squarehead insert, the paint stayed locked in place by the detent. I haven’t shot it yet, but it looks promising. I just need to make sure it feeds reliably now.

Well, it was an interesting experiment, but a round collar just doesn't work reliably with the stock PMC detent. It's simply too stiff for rounds to feed reliably. I started out with an 18mm hole, but it was too tight for paint to feed past the detent. I increased it to 19mm and it kind of worked, but rounds would feed only intermittently as paint sizes differed. I bumped the hole up to 20mm and rounds just fell out again (which defeats the purpose of the project). The only way I could potentially see the magwell detent working with roundball would be to redesign it and print it in a softer material. Maybe I'll revisit this idea someday, but in the meantime, I went back to the FSR collar.

I preordered the M17A2 when it first came out. Took it out once and the Milsig magazines were breaking like a one time use item.

I didn’t really have too many actual issues with the Squarehead mags. They’re just heavy, bulky, and they require winding. That being said, they don’t have the issue of dropping three balls on a tactical reload like the Zetas do with the PMC magwell (which is what I was trying to solve here).
