So I don't know how many here have working Metadyne Thumper's, post up if you have one. If you do great! If you had to adjust anything on the thumper (bypass the piston reg, add custom piston, retool the piston area, etc) please post info as well.
The thumper is a lost uncut gem that always had potential.
For me, I found my thumper only works flawlessly off HPA. Played a magical 3 hours straight that way the other weekend. Was so happy I couldn't stop playing with the marker. After a jinx.
(At first I was playing on CO2 12ies when I was jinxed at the beginning of the day; when chrono tests with the thumper worked fine 10min before first game. Walk out to the field, first game and another pump player said the magic words, "is that a working thumper!" Just before game start on field, and pump, click...nothing)
which led me to finding if I use 12g air supply it lasts 15 to 30 shots, or 30mins under CO2 pressure. Then I have to give it a 1 hour o-ring cool down to subdue the swelling from CO2.
Speculation...This could be the reason the pistons were bending so frequently, the o-rings swell off CO2 around the middle of piston area. When the piston resets for the next shot a piece of the o-ring catches the internal airway hole and is pushed out of its groove jamming or bending the piston on the next shot.
Any thoughts?
Thumper is later version aluminum piston, from factory and I will now run only HPA through the marker until it becomes a true paperweight.
