Quickswitch rebuild/O-ring sizes

Hello MCB,

I am trying to rebuild a PPS Quickswitch.

From the PPS website i have this:


So:
- cup o-ring: 046
- stem o-ring: 003

Seems easy right? well ... not so simple ...

According to standard sizes, here is the actual 046 o-ring description:
#046 4-1/4"ID x 4-3/8"OD 0.070" (1/16" Width)


I tried 008 in there, but they are too big a shred upon installation.
So, what is actual cup o-ring sizes?

So I have this written down from a blazer. I am assuming they are the same, if someone knows differently, please let me know so I can update my records.

046x.224 for the switch cup oring 70 durometer

The y are the same, but o-ring 046 is over 4 inches in diameter ...

Craig himself chimed in a few years back on the old mcarter about this issue. The 46-224 is not the same as a -046. It is a weird seal and nobody knows where to get it but those named Palmer, unfortunately.

Fortunately, Craig shared an alternate size that is obtainable by us mortals. It is a 1.2x5.7 metric oring. I have purchased many and used them to rebuild a few blazers and quickswitches with great success. You can purchase them here

Ok, I found an alternative for the cup o-ring ... Seams to fit great.
but as I was putting it back together I noticed the 003 o-ring in the stem are nowhere near the inside of the cup ... There is a big ole gap between the stem o-ring and the inside of the cup ...

Those 033 o-ring have been working great in other 3-ways.

Do I need a new set of cups at this point?

I have had that problem with 003 orings before, I find they're not always very consistent in dimension and have gone through 5 or 6 to find two that fit whatever 3way I'm rebuilding.

Good point, that bag is pretty consistent ... I got it because my old bag was all over the place ... Time to digg the old bag out ...

I just finished doing my Blazer switch rebuild and used 005-70 orings stretched over the cups instead of PPS spec seals, seems to be working.

I plan on ordering a rebuild kit at some point but didn't want to wait a month for it to arrive, given the state of the postal service currently, so I thought I'd try something from a local source first.

edit: I used 005's (corrected initial post) and have, since the initial rebuild, installed urethane 003s - makes for a much smoother trigger actuation.

Something I would like to add to this post is that I believe there are different stem and cup sizes. I’ve ordered an extra stem from PPS and it didn’t fit inside of the cups I had at all. It was far too tight and would hardly travel through the switch. Also the 003 buna N o -rings are far too small and will leak compared to 003 polyurethane o-rings. The Palmers switches are all pretty much set up for polyurethane o-rings unless they’re custom made for buna.
