I'm buying a few Sterlings shortly from Australia 🦘 to try different setups. If I let one go I'll post it up here. Be on the look out

Just attach a pump handle that isn’t linked to anything and pinky swear not to pull the trigger until you cycle the pump ;-)

In my 20 years of playing I've never seen a Sterling on a wall in a proshop and I've met only one person who shot with one. I'm not counting that. They need to be readily available & priced so the average player would actually buy one off the shelf. That's what I believe needs to happen for people to actually give pump a serious try.

And, as Jonny said below, it needs more exposure. A good, high-quality pump gun at a low price might help with that. (see the Emek at release price)

Yes, GI has Empire, JT, and a ton of other brands now. And I think this GI is the biggest contributor to the majority of the problems in paintball today. It also doesn't help that they're now owned by an equity group and money is all that matters.

They perhaps do have the ability to create a low-cost pump gun for the masses. I just don't think they'll do it. And it's a damn shame for paintball overall since they're the majority of the North American market.

I say pump paintball has to have a manual action to fire every shot whether it be a pump handle, bolt action or thumb lever. Stock class has to be 12 Gram stickfeed parallel to the barrel. No more than 15 I think and some of the old guys would say no more than 10 so a rock n cock style action.

My view of a pump is simply something that is limited to one shot until a pump-like motion allows the next shot, regardless of what takes place to prevent the subsequent shot.

Would something like I previously described with the Emek be shunned by the majority of the pump market?

Does it need to physically connect to or otherwise move the bolt?

Does it need to be capable of stock class, open class, HPA, CO2, etc.

Is a pump Automag generally accepted with the pump crowd?

Just trying to get an idea of how segregated the pump market is and what the design would have to be to satisfy most/all.

    Not worth the effort

The emek drive train also wouldn't translate well to a pump conversion as the bolt returns as part of the cycle.

I've toyed with the idea of a pump body kit where the pump would allow a ball to load....... But design flaw holding the pump back and firing makes it a semi.
Pump rod to an A/T cam in the saftey.

If they didn't jump on that huge popularity of cockers making a come back let alone Belsales doing it they won't.

I think a lot of that is really just lack of exposure. You're not wrong per se, but in areas that have a lot of pump players we have seen a massive amount of interest and converts. I do agree with your point about it not being worth it for most manufacturers just due to the cost vs. return, but I am a firm believer that most players that dip a toe in the pump waters end up coming back again.

If I remember, there's a rod going through the trigger, or attaches to it.

Yeah I love the Phantoms but there's a learning curve there. For me they don't work because for aiming I really need a good vertical front grip. Right now there's not a good low end option other than getting a used autococker converted pump. It's kind of a chicken and egg problem at the moment. Until someone comes up with an affordable but decent solution, there isn't a market but there might be a market if there was a low cost new option to buy, It needs to be similar to the Phantom or Emek in terms of low cost but completely customizable. People do love being able to customize their stuff.

PE also didn't really think there was such a market for a low end mech and magfed gun either but they have had a surprise hit with the Emek/MF100 for sure.

Does the pump completely replace the trigger then, or is holding the trigger back still required?
