It's a little slow/dead in the old brassy gun forum so let's see what we can do about that...
Gotta say I'm falling back in love again with brass. A little history: The first gun I ever lusted after was a P68sc which I mowed a bunch of lawns to buy but by the time I saved enough money they were hard to come by so I ended up just buying a Spyder and then later a PGP when the PGPOG forum was a cool place to hang out. The PGP is probably what got me into old guns and MCB in the first place. After that I always had a brass gun on and off, usually a PGP but later a P68sc that I stripped the paint off of and tuned up, a couple PMI-1's one of which got tuned up with a high flow valve and was a good shooter, and a few more PGP's. All of these were fun guns to own but never really a serious use gun as they never really shot to field velocity and were harder to use than my other guns like Phantoms or Snipers.
Getting back into paintball in 2018 after a roughly 10 year hiatus my first purchase was a PMI-1 from a member on here. You know what? I never used that gun, not even once. It was fun to shoot in the back yard but never really good for the field. A P68sc, PGP, and another PGP followed with the P68 and one of the PGP's getting sold off. The PMI-1 and PGP were in the back of the closet collecting dust and getting ready to head to the chopping block.
But, an amazing thing happened this weekend. On a lark I threw the brass guns in the bottom of the gear back under the LV1 and headed to the field. Unexpectedly the regulars didn't show up in the numbers I was expecting so the field was mainly walk-ons/renters. After a couple games playing with the LV1 and just shooting semi 5bps capped it was apparent that in order for everyone to have fun I was forced to hang back and just play slow. So I pulled the PMI-1 out of the bag, gassed up, and headed out to play.
What insane fun! I was able to play super aggressive and get out front without overwhelming the newer players or throwing the game balance off while still having a ton of fun. Snap shots were so much more important as was positioning. Now, instead of just shooting back and forth the game became about sneaking around, getting close, and firing one well aimed shot. Now, I know this sounds like just regular stock class but for some reason it was so much more fun just because of a good piece of brass in the hand.
Sure, brass is janky. They are hard to use, you have to keep them tipped up to keep from getting rollouts, you have to fire once or twice to pierce a 12gram, and it doesn't shoot field velocity but brass guns are just a blast in the right scenario!
So, this is my love letter to brass. I'm firmly back in love with these outdated old guns. Anybody else had their brass out lately?
