I bought some hex tubing several months ago with the idea of using it in a build but when it arrived I realized it was a bit too small to use without modification, so I set it aside and forgot about it until very recently.
Last time I was at a field, we ended up running some single shot games at the end of the day - I had mine and Alexndl had enough spares for everyone else - and frankly, it was the most fun we had all day.
Where was I going with this....? Right, project.
anson gave me a couple Sheridans to play around with and I decided to turn one into a cool single shot so I have a loaner for the next SS game... and thus, a use for for the hex tubing I just remembered having.
I've got a bunch of oddball tubing lying everywhere so I ended up using some stock Sheridan barrel tube for the breech, .685 tubing (with wedgits) for the barrel, and a short section of .692 at the end of the barrel assembly to help stabilize the ball's exit and quiet it down a bit. The hex tubing was split along one side and used as a barrel shroud along 2/3 of the barrel assembly - I didn't have enough length to cover the entire upper tube.
Add a KRain frame to it (until I snag a Sergison) and I've got this:
I built up the bottom of the barrel shroud - where I split it - with solder and shaped it with files until it's close to the original form.
