Perusing the vendor tables at a scenario game on Sunday, I found this in a "make an offer" bin filled with mostly Brass Eagle and Tippmann parts. Picked it up for $20.
I've been 'balling since about '97. I bought a new PGP in the early '00s, so I'm somewhat familiar with the platform, but I never maintained (or even cleaned lol) my old one. It was a tank. I don't have any 12g cartridges to test it with, but I'm going to assume it needs some thorough TLC to get it up and running. It cocks back and dry fires, but the action is rough and the o-rings that I can see are pretty roached. Otherwise it seems to be fully intact with all the essential parts.
Do you guys have any estimates on its age? I can't find any serial number databases, or even a complete list of different versions/generations. From what I can tell the "PA series" has the easier to maintain cartridge style valve. So that's a good thing, right?
I'm also trying to decide what to do with it - from a purely monetary/value standpoint, is it worth fixing up? Right now all of these options are on the table:
- Hang it on the wall next to my Sniper SHO, which is in perpetual "I'll rebuild this someday, just not today" status. Basically make it a museum/conversation piece.
- Do the bare minimum to get it up and running, then keep it around as a novelty and occasionally bust it out during scenario games. This is likely within my abilities, provided that I can find some decent guides and source the correct parts.
- Totally trick it out. I see that freak boring is a thing, along with refinishing and a myriad of other mods. I'm just not sure if there are any shops that still do this - I don't have the tools or experience to do my own machining/custom work.
- Sell it to someone who is more knowledgeable, capable, and will enjoy it more than I will.
I'm also open to suggestions other than what I listed above. What do you all think?
