I think you mean what you need is a sear. What you actually have is a shear. Shear in your sear.

While I am a firm believer if you can get the correct part get the correct part but sears are pretty easy to make out of sheet stock. The Stirling profile is a little fragile stock form I would try to beef up a little if I was to make one.
