Abrasive Media for 98 Shells?

I'm looking to sandblast some older 98 Shells that had started to get bubbling in the paint. I took a wire brush and wheel to them already but it's only worked in the areas of bubbling, the rest of the paint is still on there solid.

Any recommendations for media? I know walnut shells are usually recommended for aluminum to prevent pitting, but I also don't want to take forever cutting through the paint.

What about letting some paint remover on it overnight?

Yeah. Marine stripper for a minute will take the paint off with little effort.

Walnut. I once tried to blast a 98 with black beauty and a much longer stand off than you normally shoot it with (I was outside So i didn't have the limitations of a cabinet) Even from a long way away black beauty really pits the hell out of it.

Look and see if anyone in your area is offering Dry Ice blasting. With dry ice you do not have to worry about getting media stuck in the pores of the casting.

Thanks I might have to look into the dry ice. I was just planning on doing it myself with a ghetto rigged airgun and shop compressor.

I'd like abrasive blasting for the texture.

I glass-beaded my receivers, turned out pretty decent. The paint was bubbled in some spots and totally gone in others - I took it down to bare metal.

I don't know if I took pictures.

Edit: found one in my ebolt thread. I could have gone a bit further with the blasting but got it "good enough" for what I planned to do.
