Anyone remember Psycho Ballistics' "Automated Firing System" for the Model 98?

This was a bolt-on electric motor with a paddle sear that was operated through a pressure switch you taped on the grip, not the response trigger kit or e-bolt. I believe this predates both of those by a few years.

I'm not sure about the years this was on the market but I saw one in action exactly once on a friend's Model 98 in 1999. It wasn't good! It didn't work so well with a gravity-fed hopper (mechanized hoppers seemed rare at the time) and it was ergonomically awkward as hell since you couldn't use most of the grip. That being said, it was a much cheaper option than the small handful of full-autos available, but I don't think my friend ever used it again.

While digging for more info, I came across this comment here on MCB about an old ad showing a "full auto kit" for the Model 98: "Full auto kit" was probably the bolt-on kit that the ATF banned... it was a box with an electric motor that bolted to the trigger guard and used a paddle to pull the trigger.

Do any of you know if this is the same kit that is or was actually banned by the ATF? I spent some time searching but couldn't find anything about the ATF and paintball aside from silencers.

A few other links for anyone interested in this unremarkable bit of paintball history:

A full kit complete with instructional VHS on Ebay. Not my listing but maybe of interest to someone here.
The only photo I could of one installed is this archived Action Village page.
A summary of the Psycho Ballistics brand on PBN, apparently unrelated to the markers of the 2000s.

Yes, I've had a few through the years.

Sold a nib one a few years ago and still have a very beat up one

Neat concept but falls into the "why?" Category

Edit: the banned thing was the little bolt on crank version.... I don't think this was banned because it want universal in mounting.

Bargain bin full-auto certainly appealed to us as dumb teenagers.

Do you know what the little bolt on crank version was called or who made it?

I was under the understanding these also fall under the ATF ban. Reason being is that they will ban things that can either work on or be easily modified to work on a firearm. Any suppressor for paintball will obviously be designed around 68 caliber but their reasoning for banning them is that you could potentially easily modify one to easily work on a firearm

Same reasoning goes for this you would essentially need to figure out a mount and that's all

So could you conceivably put a response trigger on a gas operated AR?

Ah. That explains the "rain cover" situation regarding paintball suppressors and terminology. Thanks, I figured it was something silly like that. Nice to know I was right.

Is this the auto trigger you are speaking of?
