    VM68 Modernization Build

I'm bored with autocockers...My brother and I were chatting about playing back in the 90's and he said he wanted a VM, so I'm working on buying one now but wanted to see about milling/modding/modernizing whatever I end up with. I'll probably do a bunch of milling like the Carter/Space gun type stuff to reduce a bunch of weight, slim it down and make it look cool.

As far as the internals, how do they run off HPA? I don't know of any fields around me that does Co2 anymore. I was also thinking about making some delrin parts (bolts, hammers, etc.). Is there a consensus on anything here?

My apologies, I'm totally new to the platform.

They'll cycle on HPA but will typically have lower velocity between the HPA and small paint. The valves have different ports that will change how much air goes to firing vs recock so you may be walking a fine line between good velocity and functionality. Newer models will also have an enlarged air chamber behind the front ASA so they might work better.

find one of the late production VMs with the large transfer port drilled through the body. These are the best candidates for running them on HPA, especially since they have a larger dead space behind the front ASA that acts like a volumizer. Reducing reciprocating mass with a lighter bolt will help also. I never got into carving up the hammer when I was messing with HPA on VMs, but that is also something to consider

take the valve and drill out the smallest port on it as big as you can go without hitting the o-ring grooves. only run that port. You want no restrictions on air flow in the valve and bolt, you will control velocity with the reg.

With those simple steps I could VMs to run perfectly fine on HPA, so long as the tank reg was high pressure ( 800psi+ ). I would run a good reg to then usually operate at 600-650psi

just know that part of the characteristic VM experience will be a bit attenuated . . . they will shoot softer and quieter. but will probably seem loud and kick-y as eff compared to anything else
