    allot of angels

ive been seeing allot of angels for sale and have been wondering why theyre not getting snatched up...

maybe they are and im not following it or maybe the generation that knew what angel was back in the day are no longer in the sport. could it be the lack parts that scare people away?

could it be the special tool kit you need to own, in order to service them? or the battery replacement puzzle?

I hunted down and picked up a shoebox shocker when I learned the 9volt mod , could resolve the proprietary battery problem.

I play with some guys that had them when they came out, they all play with new guns now.
I guess if you wanted to make the electronic jump away from mech stuff, you just keep jumping to keep up.
Like an old Nokia brick phone that everyone loved, I wouldn't buy one today, and I certainly wouldn't buy one to use it.

I would buy a Nokia brick phone, under very specific conditions (those conditions are as of yet unmet).

      No parts....

Rams aren't serviceable and of the two shops working on angels one is a thief

It's like anything ones a parts source goes away they become worthless

Useless as a player's marker, which leaves only collectors, who will only want mint unique examples. I'm debating on how far to go with mine, since the cost of putting one together 'properly' is so disproportionately high. Maybe time for Mech-Angels.

mech-Angel is quite difficult because of the solenoid position in relation to the frame.

Y'know, I've been wondering why my later-model ball detents don't really sell that well. My Intimidator detents (which admittedly fit, like, a dozen different markers) fly off the shelves but I'm still working my way through the first batch of A1-era detents that I made almost a year ago.

I was also planning on making a few of the various generation Angel Freak backs in this next batch, but you guys have me kind of second-guessing that one, too. Maybe I should pare it back, anyway, like to just 10-20 of each thread.

Even at that, which of the (3) Angel barrel threads do you pick to run?

They are quite a dead property.... We've actually stopped taking trade ins of anything angel at my booth at events. We just get stuck with it

Enoch board solves the battery issue. Love my Speed’s.

-I was going to do a limited number of all three. I was originally thinking only about two dozen each, but I'm starting to think maybe half that would be a wiser move.

On the rest, I thought people were making new battery packs. Heck, it's the same technique as making RC car packs, I'd be surprised if there weren't options out there.

What else? The tool kit was mentioned, which also kind of surprises me, as those don't 'wear out' and there used to be thousands of sets out there.

What else? O-rings? Reg seals? Bolts?

I also thought the rebuildable ram thing was solved- there used to be "how to" instructions all over the place. Yeah, it takes a lathe to do it right, so it's not something the average bloke can do at home, but what happened to all the people that used to make a living working on Angels?

(Living in Backwater, Alaska, doesn't exactly let me put my thumb on the pulse of the sport, y'know. )

Nearly everything for Angels is obtainable except for Angel LED solenoids (Doc did make an adaptor at one point).

A gentleman on the OG group makes tools, for the markers and the Angel AIRs. Multiple people make battery packs including your local battery place (make sure they use their thinnest heat shrink). Multiple places make new 9 volt powered boards (Enoch, ZeroX, FloryPB, TAG). Bolts are still made by Chris Nelson. Doc and Nummech make detents.

LED and LCD rams are rebuildable from the factory.

Not really defending the marker, could care less about their value, just putting out there that options are available.

I’m not sure I agree with OP. We got a bunch of BNIB, Speeds, A4’s, and G7’s and they all sold out pretty quickly and not cheaply either. I’ve been selling vintage WDP and Warped Dark Angel banners for a pretty penny. And if you notice, Angel prices have doubled in the past year. You could find base model LEDs, LCDs, Speeds, and even IR3’s for around 175 about a year ago and now they’re twice that. And I have seen Angels move on ebay. Right now you can see IR3’s moving for around $300 and G7’s for around $600 for base models. There will always be Angels listed IMO, just like Cockers, there are hundreds of thousands between all the different models and generations. I had my eye on a yellow Adrenaline and it sold within days before I could get my payment ready.

In terms of the viability of the platform: A1’s and IR3’s were the only ones without serviceable RAMs. And there are fully serviceable aftermarket rams for the A1 made by by TAG/ Brad. They aren’t that hard to work on, around the same as cockers. Yes, you need to do 9V conversions and you need the tool, but I think Angels will continue to appreciate with the rest of the vintage market. Cockers, AKAs, and Matrixes led the pack starting around 2010, but the rest of the market has been catching up. Part inflation — and part of it is nostalgia and the fact that these guns are being appreciated like classic cars. And as time goes on they will continue to appreciate. People long for the over engineered, superior craftsmanship, and classic lines. Just like cars. And just like classic cars, they are harder to restore and maintain. That’s part of the gig. It’s not everyone’s thing. Some people like simple and like to buy stuff that’s already working. But anyway, even Timmies are appreciating now. You could get Timmies for $200-250 about a year or two ago now they’re twice that. The Ripper’s market value has skyrocketed.

                interesting.

DOC, have you ever thought of making a rebuildable ram from the ground up rather than modifying a stock ram?

-I had not, but that's certainly an interesting thought.

Unfortunately, my current schedule is packed right now, and there's no way I can follow up on that anytime soon.

i was going to order one of the predator rams but they wouldnt take a pre-order and then things just got in the way by the time they had more in stock.

i have 2 rebuildable rams but the fit/finish/tolerances are just not there. they have loosened up over time and it would be nice to have something purpose built.

Angels are great. I have two Angel LCDs, and they seem as good as any other marker out there, so long as you keep it fed well since it doesn't have eyes, and adding eyes would be very easy since I have aftermarket boards. I have managed to get by without the tool kit, but I admit some things are much harder when you have to BS your own tool to do something. They both generate quite a bit of interest when I show up to the field with them, and they are both quite reliable markers, so I imagine there is a market there.

Edit: That being said, when I want to go electro I almost always go shoebox so I dunno if I will hold onto my Angels either lol
