The plastic on the Valve stems are 20+ years old, and even NOS ones are failing faster. Sadly the stock valve stem isn't rebuildable. I designed a rebuildable valve stem. It has a top hat that holds a urethane disc, that is all held together with a 2-56 screw (Blue Loctited). The stem is heat treated 17-4 stainless and the top hat is brass. I ordered urethane sheets from McMaster-Carr and cut them on my co2 laser:
I used 95A and 75D (extra Hard), and both seemed to work. 75D is harder than 95A and would have a higher potential to not seal if the valve face isn't perfect.
I am sharing my design with anyone who wants to make one for themselves, or have one made for them:
Note: 17-4 heat treats really easy btw 900 degrees for 1hr
