    Realistic Accuracy Expectations

I have been in this game a very long time and have very fond memories of ball on ball accuracy using my sniper 2 and a 12" Dye stainless with no sizers or any of that crap.

That being said, over the years, I still use the same setup and feel like I am less and less consistent which is certainly due to modern paint sizing.

Today I had of those magic days where I couldn't miss and had several snap shot one balls on various electros with my pump so it would seem accuracy was up today, but when I was gun fighting I would notice the usual slight inconsistencies from one ball to the next. It was especially bad on the long ball, they weren't spiraling around but just weren't all going the same place which was probably velocity fluctuations due to bore size, yadda yadda.

All of that being said, is anyone ACTUALLY getting good ball on ball accuracy these days, barring that one random oddly sized ball. If so, what barrel/paint are you using. Is it time for me to move on from my trusty stainless boom stick or is memory just more rosy than reality.
"but we all have electros and you guys only have pumps, this wont be fair"

    (chuckling quietly) "we know"

    Stick to what you know.

The difference is made in the quality of the paint. The more consistent the paint, the better chance you have.

No, paints been terrible the last few years.

Ya GI and their paint monopoly of much of North America, coupled with their poor staff training and business practices have really caused paint quality to suffer.

I've definitely found paint from other companies to be nicer, but not necessarily the greatest.

I haven't had ball on ball accuracy (at least for more than 2 or 3 shots in a row) since about 2002-ish. That was with RPS All Star and an original style 12" Smart Parts All American. Paint is not what it used to be - not even close. I only use a barrel kit with my Autococker to prevent rollouts. Otherwise, I just overbore. Either way, it's an accuracy by volume approach.

Depends on the gun. Shot Valken last year through a CCM and my necrococker and couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Shot the same paint through my Redux and could blast soda cans at 80 feet. Both using freak inserts, so who knows what the magic sauce is....

2006 using Marbilizers from my local gas station and Evil from a tournament.... could basically skeet shoot with that paint... man those were the days...

Only when I bore size throughout the day. It’s not a cure-all but it’s the ritual that seems to really work for me. In Oregon we have temp fluctuations, humidity and different elevations (valley vs high desert). RB is imperfect as it is and it never seems like the paint I used to shoot in the early 2000s. So don’t feel alone there haha.

This all sounds inline with my experience. I miss the late 90s rps marbilizer.

Man, All-Star was the first paint that truly blew me away. That stuff was amazing. I did, however, have a couple very good days with some Empire Evil last year. Not absolutely perfect, but I was able to shoot more people out than I usually do, and by a fair margin. Could've just been me though.

This is exactly what I do. Kit to prevent rollouts and simply overbore on everything else.

Maybe it's just rose tinted glasses of the past but yeah I remember getting ball on ball with Marbalizer, RPS premium and even...brass eagle blue streak paint back in the day. Seems like all the paint was either just better or at least more consistent.

Nowadays I've pretty much given up playing pump unless it's against true newbies since you pretty much have to spray to get a few balls to go on target.

My personal "cure" is to shoot open bolt guns with a moderate overbore. With the 681 paint we've been getting a 685 seems to shoot really well. I've had some luck with my Illusion shooting a .680 Dye ultralite underbored. Not sure how that will hold up on a cold day when the paint gets super brittle though. My Palmerized P68 with wedgits shoots great too with an overbore but velocity is backed down so that might be part of it.

                      This.

I used to purchase really good paint, that was (indeed) really good. Nowadays you can pay really good paint money, but you typically don't get it. Names that used to mean something as far as quality don't because they have been bought out and the name whored out for it familiarity.

Your choices for paint now are as follows.

                        Cheap and not round
                        Cheap and too brittle
                        Expensive and not round
                        Expensive and too brittle

All of the above come only in tiny bore and oily

I agree with the above statements. A few games ago I purchased "the good paint" hoping for better accuracy and had the worst paint day I have had in years. I am sure it is fine in a space gun but all of my antiques were little more than blenders. I have been using generic field paint since which lead to this topic being created.

I guess maybe it really was better back in the day. I can now go back to yelling at kids to stay off my lawn.

I gave up a while ago and just buy whatever the field uses for the rental fleet. I'd rather have chaos related to my accuracy/precision then have to clean up after a break in the barrel. Hell I've got over 2 year old paint in my basement that I will use playing outlaw. No worse then any "fresh" paint I've bought in quite a while.

You know paint quality has declined when a local field offers "unlimited paint" for $25...
I have still had decent success with a pump (sniper based) and meh paint. But not what it should be

*shudder*... it's like buffet quality vs Michelin star quality. I miss direct-from-the-factory Nelson paint.

I feel like we need to re do a bunch of the accuracy tests that were done in the past
