    The scent of paintballs

I played in a hoodie the last couple times out to the field. I wore it the other day and despite a washing it really held onto the scent. It found it to have almost a comforting feeling. Comfort food for the nose So it had me curious, does anyone else like the smell of paintballs?

I wouldn't say I "like" it but it definitely has that comfort food for the nose thing you speak of.

            Agreed.
Taking a big sniff straight from the bag can be almost gut-wrenching to me sometimes, but catching a random whiff of it when reloading & going through your gear is like ā€œAwwww yeeeaaah.ā€
I actually donā€™t really notice any broken paint smell, though.

Definitely a unique smell. If its an oil based paint especially if its fish oil, its gonna reek.

Better than the scented paintballs of yesteryear...

I've noticed in my travels to different field who sell different paints that they smell differently. GI typically has that nasty fishy/death smell where Valken still stinks but not where near as foul.

I would if we were all using Nelson's corn scented hunting bait paintballs, but those things are about as expensive as first strike rounds.

This is why i never washed my tourney gloves 20 years ago. Only gonna have that fragrance and patina once, can't risk washing any of the luck out either. Pulling those out of the bag was definitely the smell of Sunday morning.

Years ago we used to find and use scented paintballs from Pro Ball IIRC (and probably am not). There were a few including Apple, Strawberry, and a Citrus one that smelled exactly like dish soap. I liked those. It was great knowing whom you had merc'ed while walking through the pits.

I have worked paintball so much that I am far too familiar with the stench they make as rotting under bunkers and netting edge. I don't care for it any longer.

                          This dude knows what's up.

I hate the smell. Valken paint actually smells nice, but the smell of decaying paint makes me sick..

I literally filled an entire dumpster with just decomposing paint, the smell still haunts me. It was the first time the owner ever cleared out the Airball field, after nearly 10 years.

I wasn't going to say it, but yeah... that's the smell that sticks with me. I don't think it's the paint, but rather the bacteria that grows on it. It reminds me of organic machining coolant where the exposed surface area becomes frothy with bacterial growth and smells like nothing else.

It always reminds of back when I started playing. I was in middle school and the parents weren't on board with the idea so we kept all the gear in the trunk of my brothers car so it was never cleaned. I had the original leader googles back in 91ish that were just goggles with basically a mouth cover. The foam on the googles reeked of paintballs and it always reminds me of those days.

                        (chuckling quietly) "we know"
