Whatever happened to the preponderance of PPS gear in BST forums?

Hey friends, I was formerly "stircrazzzy" here (still am on other forums) and I'm currently in the inevitable paintball phase I tend to go through once every year or two

First off - mcb got a face lift! Cool!

However, I recall back in the day that there was seemingly an obsession with PPS gear (typhoons, blazers, etc) and they were always in the BST sections. Nowadays I see there is basically none of that. I'm curious...did the community stop trading these and are people hoarding them? Or has paintball just moved past mech guns at this point?

I'd still love to find some old typhoons for sale. In fact I did find BBT Typhoon #1 on Bacci Paintball and have submitted a couple of inquiries but haven't heard back. Where is all this brass hiding???

I've read a few times that the brass market has slowed down in demand. So maybe people are just holding on to them rather then sell at a loss? Mechanical markers like Blazers, no clue but if I ever buy a semi marker again I'll probably look for one. Had one for awhile and it was a fun marker to play with.

Ive noticed a short-term, general decline in interesting items, but maybe its a blip.

A lot of stuff seems to have found slightly longer-term homes at the moment, give it 6 months

It's kind of like how millennials are obsessed with 80's and 90's imports, while boomers are all about old American muscle cars. There's a new appreciation for 90's and early-2000's paintball, while Palmer's brass stuff was always kind of a throwback to 80's guns. The appreciation will depend on the crowd, and over the years I think some of the older crew has retired.

Lots of BST before the site was hacked. Since then its been pretty dry, not too many Unicorns popping up nearly as often. I think a lot of people saw the hack and never came back, either went to FB or just stopped trading. I think a number of PPS guns are tucked away in closets, O-rings slowly degrading away. And since they so often need rebuilds, people don't want to sell them and lose a ton of value by trying to sell a leaky gun.

Agreed. We haven't seen the numbers we used to have pre-crash, I think a lot of old regulars just never came back unfortunately.

Im personally just heating back up on brass. I sent one of my shooties to get some lama lovin, and have since been oogling the hell out of everything.

but even locally, theres like 4 guys who like and collect brass. No one else aside from the occasional curious young rental player cares they exist.

In 2008 when paintball shut down, palmer down sized from what I can see.

Since then, custom guns from them are very expensive and not a lot of people are buying them. There are a few lances out there (new gen brass gun from craig palmer) but not many.

When it comes to Semi's, a lot of the semi autos need new seals now and the current generation autococker fans don't understand how to work on the palmer guns and don't appreciate the extra complexity / difference from what has become "normal" . In my memory, palmer guns were what you would buy when you didn't want autococker unreliability.

And the pump guns remain popular but they are rare. At the same time, they don't have the pump stroke of a CCM gun, because they are not designed around low pressure, most if not all of them could run on straight co2 or tank HPA pressure no problem.

So they are a little bit in a no mans land for the entire lineup, and the blazer is quite overlooked.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Cunha, this makes sense, and is a bummer. I really appreciated the craftsmanship from PPS. I've had several Typhoons over the years and regret getting rid of each of them :/

Yeah, I hear you on the maintenance...my guns worked great and then suddenly I had a problem with one that I can't remember, which necessitated sending it back to PPS for a full rebuild, which took a pretty long time.

Even still, custom is custom, and it's something I enjoy.

I guess I'll keep my eyes peeled for some PPS brass. I really want the BBT Typhoon over at Bacci Paintball but I haven't been able to get a reply from them (are they still operational?).

                Cheers everyone.

Pps currently has 3 on the shelf pumps ready ( Ive been trolling their site). That palmerized sb seems a pretty affordable shooter.

I doubt it needs seals, there's a total of one valve seal and the cupseal, both of which almost never go bad.

I've noticed that Sheridans that PPS converts usually are pretty reliable. It's the PPS built from the ground up guns that normally have issues. That and strokers.

"That" SB has been there so long that I assume they're sitting on a stockpile of some sort

Quick update here - I got in touch with Bacci and bought the BBT Typhoon #1

I also chatted with Craig P about a custom auto lance build, which has been paid in full. So...now we wait. hehe.

I'm not usually one to gravitate to Palmers parts, though Craig helped me out bigly awhile ago. That Auto Lance looks hot. I wonder if he'd sell the body, blocks, barrel, and valve separately...
