    .50 cal paintball ballistics?

Has anyone here or elsewhere , hashed out the max ballistics of a .50 cal paintball projectile, compared to .68 cal ?

Putting the obvious criticisms of .50 cal paintball aside for a minute,( ie. it has less energy at a distance, and less chance of breaking on target, the current lack of equipment supporting it compared to .68 cal, etc. ) , I'm just curious about the raw performance capabilities of this round?

For example, if we start increasing the velocities that .50 cal is shot at, where does it meet or exceed the range of standard.68 cal@280fps ?

How does it compare to .68 cal in windy conditions? Does the smaller surface area mean wind has less effect, but the smaller mass of a .50 cal ball mean wind has a greater effect? Which effect wins out?

What happens if we impart backspin on a .50 cal paintball ? I don't think this has been experimented with due to no .50 cal backspin devices having been made. At greater FPS , with backspin, would we start to see Airsoft bb trajectories with .50 cal paintballs?

Mic Dropped, that’s a sweet document!
Is it your creation? Or who does credit go to?

Yeah that kind of mirrors everything I've heard, they are terrible compared to 68

I did that a long time ago now when .50 caliber first came out and folks were claiming it would fire straighter and further at the same fps as .68 caliber, which flew against all science I knew so I had to write up the actual science behind it and do drop tests, ballistics, etc.

I can get .68 distance with FS .50 cal. I haven’t tested extensively but the small FS is accurate and range worthy. Huge improvement over .50 RB.

In the range I enjoy and find myself playing, .50 makes sense. I’ve been messing around with the HDR50 (modern 3357) and I love how compact it is. That data just backs up 50 cal being more than enough for up close “urban” play.

Once shot with a single 50 cal paintball round...it didn't break

Yeah, the consensus is that the product has a place, but the marketing was a massive failure. Complete with outright lies and fabrications on a level that made me lose all respect for large chunks of the industry - not that anyone respected the GI / Kore exec folks before then anyway.

It's a use case thing really. Want something compact for short range firefights? 50 cal is great. Want something more newbie or kid friendly? 50 cal is great. Want a pistol that's not the size of a hand cannon...

50 cal FS could be the best of both worlds if not for the price.

I too am intrigued by the .50” first strike rounds. The cost of the rounds are mute to me when you consider the larger expenses of attending a game.
Anyone have real world, in game experiences?
Reading the computer generated, in a perfect world data provided. It looks like.50 cal performance starts to really decline after 40 or so feet. Within that range the biggest downfall is force (break/no break). Personally, anything outside of 40-60 feet is typically not where I engage. That’s more of dodging range, even @ .68 and with higher ROF. My view is that if all PB instantly changed to .50, most all of the parts of the game I do not enjoy would naturally die off. [ Long ball, sniper ball, laneing, bush ball & point blank bell ringers ]
With both Empire “marbs” and Valken graffiti affordable & available in .50... combined with Umarex, SellSword, FS & the old 3357 being at arms reach. Maybe it’s a good time to reconsider 50cal?

The STOCK CLASS in me loves the idea of everything being a little smaller, a little closer and a bit more efficient.

any 50 cal players have an opinion?

I've played with the TR50 for a few games/days and played a few .50cal games ... It's a great alternative, it has its benefits and it's place into paintball, but in my experience, the rounds are so bad they really fly like c**p ...
It would be easier to find barrel tube ... Dam you! Now I'm down the .50cal PGP rabithole ...

I saw somewhere on the internet (fbook) someone said that .50 is now a big home defense thing??

Everything on FB has become LTL central since covid lol, especially .68 cal but yes, some are playing with .50 now too.

A .50 steel ball bearing will get the job done. Lots of this activity in countries with firearm prohibition, big shocker.

Pistol - only 50 cal would be amazing. Actually, I spent some time on some concept designs along these lines a while back for the simonized forums. I'll see if I can dig them up.

The whole LTL thing is what is making this hard to get momentum. Even FS’s rosco rebrand pistol lacks velocity adjustment. I know a lot of dyed in the wool ballers stop there, no reason to take these toys seriously without a velocity knob. Wait? I suppose the same forward thinking types who drilled out KP/PGP valve caps for velocity adjusters, smacked wedgits, cut quick strip slots & ported fixed barrels could OBVIOUSLY mend up a nearly complete pistol in the age of shape waves.
                    right?
A pistol that you can literally pull a freshly printed magazine off of your bed and instantly cycle 6 rounds through it? Imagine that in 2004 when we had PT’s, slab side Zeus’s & .43 Rap4s.
I have a few mod/projects I’m printing currently for the HDR50 from a safe paintball use perspective, I’d love to see what others are up to.

I can’t find where I read the alleged original.
but come on, just look at that 12 gram engagement screw and the pop off grip frame.
do you think the same company that designed the CO2/paintball magazine went back to the 80’s for the new pistol air source design?
                        I’ll find it.
