    Why does nobody take PayPal?

When I do manage to find someone on a classified site who is interested in shipping, very rarely will they take PayPal. They always ask for e-transfer. Then when I do ask for PayPal they either say they don't have it (and won't get it), or they give some vague story about how they were scammed using PayPal. Most of these people don't seem like scammers either.

It's so frustrating. I've missed several deals because they wouldn't do PayPal or COD.

Is this in line with your experiences too? Why don't average Joes use PayPal?

Most people that are involved wirh selling stuff have PayPal, Venmo and many other apps. If they are avoiding PayPal specifically that is reason for concern.

Are your sells working out with e-transfer? Paypal avoidance is a flag for me. I've always suspected its because PayPal takes a little while to deposit funds back into the bank account. That's precious hours to someone who urgently needs it for potentially nefarious purposes.

The "PayPal wronged me" story was barely relevant 10-15 years ago. Its pretty simple to navigate and understand the terms, especially nowadays.

Not sure if this is proper but you can get a paypal.me/yourbrand - I got one and it's sick but I've gotta rename mine. You've gotta get the paypal business account to do that I think it's free and they don't ask you for anything (at least when I signed up). More ppl might use it if they know.

hit me up here xD don't tho I won't refund

Most of the time it just seems like someone who is cleaning out their basement/garage, etc, and not someone who does a lot of BST. Nothing else about them will usually raise any red flags though. They'll usually have good feedback (when applicable), have multiple years on the platform, and have several fairly priced (not extraordinarily priced) items listed. They'll usually just say they don't have PayPal, but I've had the scammed/wronged story a couple times.

I've never done business with anyone who asked for e-transfer. I do PayPal, and I'm willing to try COD if I really want something.

It really just seems like an issue of most people not using PayPal and I don't understand why.

            I have PayPal and venmo

I've noticed the actual paintball people use PayPal, the, "I'm cleaning out my closet and selling a 98 that I bought 14 years ago and haven't used since" people use venmo

They are connected somehow as well... PayPal people own venmo or something

Those two or cash on hand is all I've ever used

If somebody is demanding an e transfer for a good deal, especially a great deal, you can expect to never have actually received that deal if you paid via e transfer

PayPal take a cut, Venmo doesn’t. Way more people are using Venmo, cash app, Apple Pay etc now than PayPal. It is very easy to send money back and forth with those apps and there isn’t a fee.

But once you send money on those other apps its gone.

You can request the scammer spare pity on you and send it back but thats it. CashApp ain't gonna do nothing for you. Same for zelle or venmo. Unless they just make very unclear how to do it?

The OP asked why people don’t take PayPal. I didn’t say I’d buy anything online with one of those apps. I’m pointing out that they are more popular than PayPal now.

Someone who’s selling something on Facebook marketplace or Craigslist may not sell much online and may not have a PayPal account.

I guess it’s the same mentality of people not selling items individually, only in a package. Does it always make sense? No, but some people are stubborn. I personally want an app that protects me and the purchaser, so PayPal. Cash transfer apps seem way too easy to abuse but people are cheap and don’t want to pay fees.

Paypal's protection is much better now than when they first came on the scene. My wife still cringes when I say the name. I used to avoid but there's no reason not to now.

I use PayPal almost exclusively. I've taken a couple Bitcoin payments, but that's about it. If somebody is trying to avoid PayPal, I become skeptical.

2 reasons for not taking PayPal. 1. We are in a social fad where people want things for free or with no commitment on their part. The BS that it's a ride share not a cab, therefore no cab license or special insurance. 2. instant money, with no chance of the app taking the money back. I've used Venmo once for a purchase. It went fine, but I was nervous the entire time I was waiting for the delivery. I prefer the protection of PayPal
